I ran across two people today that made me realize the need to regulate the names and avatars used. First was "U f***ing suck!" and the second was "braydon". Allowing such coarse language, as in "U's" moniker, is offensive and completely inappropriate in a public forum like this game. Secondly, "braydon" has porno in his avatar. I don't care what these people do in their own time, but in an area where people of all ages take part, there needs to be some sort of approval, or at lease a way to report inappropriate content. I don't enjoy having that invade my otherwise clean and enjoyable gaming experience. It cheapens and sullies the image of the site and its developer as well.

at 10:44 PM, Friday December 15, 2006 EST FYI, From a legal standpoint ( I work in Law Enforcement) if you are going to have any pornographic images on your site, you are required by Federal law to maintain records that the models used in the images are over 18. By Ryan allowing these images on the site - he is opening himself up to possible criminal charges. Don't get me wrong - I love tits and I check out the pron all the time - but I don't want this site to get shut down because of this stuff.

at 2:35 AM, Saturday December 16, 2006 EST I like the "turn it off" solution for avatars. I'd love to turn off some of those animations, even if they aren't porn.
I'm all for people having cool names. But players should have to deal with offensive names on the screne. I don't like being a prude, but it's hard for me to play fair with people who are obnoxious, in their name or the text box. No so much the f***ing part of it, but the "U Suck" part of it just seems rude. (That's particularly hypocritical given my own sexual practices, but somethings things don't make sense.) Back to names: I don't want to burden Ryan with the work, but if there were a way for a player to tag a profile as "offensive", then those names could be reviewed. A chat with the player who offends others often solves the problem better than disclaimers or TOS. As for Seth, I think the bald monkey head is sexy. (I think pixilized pokemon are bad. Bad bad Tech, BAD!) |
