Behaviour and Conduct

Hey guys,

Over the last few days I've had a few complaints and emails about the conduct of various players in chat and during games. I'm not wanting to go into great detail here and I don't want to have to resort to giving people -chat or -play over this. Suffice to say, it's been pretty atrocious. Try and be mindful that this is just a game, there's real people behind the keyboard on the other end and the things you say can be hurtful. Also try and remember that it IS just a game and some of the responses to you having a bad game are a little over the top.

Please keep all this in mind, and consider this a general warning that I will be keeping an eye on things over the next week and I will be giving out moderation activity for a minimum of 3 days for any infractions due to it being a 'major' issue right now. I trust this general warning will suffice for it to not be a further problem.

If you have any specific concerns, email [email protected] and have a chat to me. Thanks in advance!

Pursey

I just want to state that I very much prefer living with people getting totally out of line verbally against an account they have no real clue about who's behind it than people running amok in real life.

A little more explicit: losing can be frustrating and the lack of skill, intelligence, board reading and honor piled up here occasionally in combination with a (not that rare) streak of real shit luck doesn't make it much better. If all that is pissing you of really bad, an outburst of insults, threats (that can't be set to action since people don't have real names or adresses) is a perfect way to handle frustration to me. Or at least it is much more perfect than grabbing a weapon (you could see a car as a weapon in this sense) and release the steam to some real person somewhere.

In addition, if you meet a person here that is reacting sort of drastically to losses (e.g. me at times) pushing that account a little further can be fun as well (since the rolling often isn't). Who's guilty then - the guy losing controll or the guy pushing him in that direction?

In conclusion, I do agree that there has to be limits. But I am also strongly advising to grow some fur. It is only words, mostly not based on real world knowlegde. Learn to use the mute-feature to get rid of the moron.

The point where you drew comparisons between real world violence/grabbing weapons and kdice was the point where I stopped reading.

So if it's just a game, why people are taking insults or taking seriously the conduct of players ? uh ?
It's just a point of view right ?
If it's a game, it should does not hurt people in any manears...

Thanks for your openmindedness Pursey - I like this in a moderator. As a slightly insulting suggestion, maybe rename the account to Blockwart. From the last 2 comments I read from you it fits perfectly.

Other than this, this is only a game, as you stated. And that fact is a valid excuse for being a total asshole in the action in the game. So why is using an anon account insulting another anon account using only words so much worse? There is no physical harm done to anybody. If you came up with the harm insults can do - losing or feeling betrayed might hurt too, even if it was "only in a game".

I'll try to make the point where Blockwart stopped reading a more simple.

I prefer people to insult me (or others) in this game in the chatbox any way they like and to any extend a lot over having those people turn mad towards their real world vicinity and do real damage there. Thus I pledge for a lot of tolerance towards outbursts of anger when games are lost.
