yup, I did award some badges for side competitions in the past (most points playing tournaments only, the 11111 challenge, ...)

Pursey also gave away a few memberships in the past. Not a bad idea but my problem with it used to be that only a select few people had a chance to win it. So it wasn't really reaching a broad audience or it had no chance at all of making the site grow. In order not to be missunderstood: this paragraph wasn't meant at all to criticise Pursey. It was a great effort to help spice up the site but the conditions for it to be succesful weren't right imo.

Even though I could easily spend some of my own money too, I just feel it would have to be Ryan's money. I also think it would be better if these awards or challenges could be hardcoded into the site so that it wouldn't just be us mods trying to organise something in the forum (not everyone reads it so it's kinda unfair to the 90% of the people who might love participating but don't know it exists)

But hey, good things might be coming in the (near ish) future!

@above:

Oh, that sounds like a good idea. I'm gonna need a new PC soon, since the old one is hopelessly outdated and unable to run new programs.

Even though I could easily spend some of my own money too, I just feel it would have to be Ryan's money. ;)

On a more serious note: some new competitions woukd certainly spice things up a little bit. But I think contrib badges are much more adequate as rewards than free memberships. The new players' tournies (and scoring scheme) have already acted as a disincentive to purchasing memberships since they're no longer prerequisites for a podium finish.

By giving out free memberships Ryan would give up even more of his revenue, putting the site's profitability in jeopardy. And why would he or anyone else invest time and money in it if there's no chance for a fair rate of return?

I agree Jurgz. New side competitionsthat dont just rewars 1st/top 100. Skill is an important factor but so is time/games. I got my first trophy last month cause work is seasonal and May is quiet so i had alot of time. This month will be the same but then i will lose alot of time again. However again 100% agree they need to be coded so that there is awareness, tracking and something to aim for so that it draws people to the site. TAZD (obsolote) and similar thigns are awesome but only for the few that know or use forum.

If there was an actualy leaderboard like ther is for most kills bbut say top 10 viewable and with trophies or similar that woulod be great. Or a tourney points only top 10 (would need work due to points caps might see alot of people donking off points to play the freerolls more.) Same with a top 10 for regualr points or a top 10 for (ideas flowing here now) Most Dom - Highest win percentage over 50 games - Most outright wins - HIghest PPG - Pacifist award (top 1? most pts with a hihger def than att %). Anyhow i feel any ide comp would need to be maybe top 10 max to still keep the main comp as the main comp and make these real specialist acheivements. Also there could be a rotating roster potentially so only 2 side comps every month cause i realise we dont want to flood the place with awards so even if we dont add 2 permanent side comps you coulod have 2 different every other month (i.e JUne is kills + touneys, July is PPG and Dom adn alternate.

Sorry for the poor syntrax this post ended up longer than i meant but i feel it would be a big asset to the game.
