Well - seems I have been able to modify my thoughts since april. This gives hope to you being able to do so too.

The rules at no point implicate that you want to be 1st in points. Given a bunch of lists on the leaderboard you could even argue that you are entitled to go for 1st in any of the categories. But that is only needed if winning a category is the implicite goal of a game.

IMHO it is not. You can gain a lot of joy by letting a kid win a game to give a simple example. I sometimes feel better flagging out than going for the win when I feel I don't deserve it (sometimes its the other way around) - it makes me feel good.

In consequence, whatever Federer gets of his games and style of playing, he's entitled to get it as long as he doesn't break the very few rules that are valid for this game.
