Make alts public knowledge

Just an idea, feel free to cut me to ribbons. I don't see a reason why the identity of alts has to be so carefully guarded. I think if it's the same person sitting behind the keyboard you should be accountable for what you say and do.

I asked people yesterday what the point of alts was, and imo the first two responses hit the nail on the head.

1. To play tourneys or lower tables you would otherwise be excluded from due to point caps (no need for anonymity)

2. To behave in a way outside of the "norm" for your main, without the repercussions

I have maybe 5 people per day spectate and heavily troll me. Granted 3/5 are Shannon's alts, but still. It just got me thinking, why protect the identity of people who primarily use alts to troll? What valid reason is there for anonymity?

Just on the topic of Shannon (or any trouble makers who are breaking the rules by playing alts while banned) it would help the mods by allowing the community to police and report accounts. At the moment we just have to speculate if an account is Shannon or not, just to use him as an example.

Just my two cents!

"I would argue that if you do the crime you should have it on your record. It's the same person playing each of the accounts"

^ Fair enough. I respect that view but I disagree, for the reason that fresh starts should be encouraged, since peoples mindset do change believe it or not. One day someone that never took this game seriously, may change his mind the next, and decide to play normally for points, or whatever other reason. Therefore having a negative reputation, and enemies could be a drain on this said individual, and may cause them to continue their previous ways out of frustration or whatever. Therefore I think having the option to create a not known alt account should be allowed.

"People who make alts to pge people in secret, troll people in secret etc"

^ That's an assumption. For many players I doubt that's true.
Granted you are correct for some, and that's an issue, but I don't feel its fair to impose this on everyone in the kdice community because a few have this mentality.

I agree for 2), but I did mention in my second post by saying it wasn't a legit reason.

| why is there a need to be anonymous?

there are a lot of reasons to be anonymous.

one reason: to play without people coming to you just because you want to play the game

im sure there are other reasons but it's kind of embarrassing that you can be so one sided about this

Besides the already mentioned reasons of too many points and seeking revenge from an unexpected angle on somebody that pissed you off a third one to me is to escape followers. There have been moments when certain accounts were following me around enjoying to piss me off - I use an alt then. They don't know it, I got rid of them and can still enjoy a game.

I agree that a clean record in terms of bans is not a reason. On contrary I could agree to bans given to one account being listed in all alts since it is the same character playing the accounts.

Regarding reviews it should be discussed if these get erased after a year or two - on the other hand all those nice old ones would be lost then. Maybe an option to manually delete them after a year or keep them if you want to...

I think Thrill is a prison guard in real life.

He wants everyone to follow his rules.
He wants people to always be tainted by their past.
He is miserable.

Don't drone me bro!

I have as bad a history as anyone else. Actions have consequences (or at least they should).

Look beyond who started the thread though and just think about why alts need to be secret. Anyway this was just a suggestion, my apologies.

Thrillho; this is a bit pointless because alts are impossible to ban. The internet is designed in a way that allows for anonymity to a large extent. Anyone with 15 minutes of reading can configure a proxy. This will basically hide your identity on the internet (at least as far as kdice is concerned).

Banning alts will have the effect of punishing the amateur non-nefarious alt user. And allowing the more nefarious proxy users to keep a clean record.

In other words; it's a completely pointless discussion.

Mods are only able to make guesses at who is using alts and who they are. Users without proxies are plain and simple; proxy users are rquired to slip up and not use their proxy once. Smart proxy users will never slip up because they solved that element with technology.

It's a game; stop worrying about the other players and make your own fun.

I will add that I originally created my alt simply to avoid BEING trolled. Although I don't keep it a particular secret at this point.

I have a secret alt that nobody knows about but only the mods of course. I want to be able to play anonymously. I play the game according to the rules. I don't want to tell you what it is and you will never know. Peace.
