Make alts public knowledge

Just an idea, feel free to cut me to ribbons. I don't see a reason why the identity of alts has to be so carefully guarded. I think if it's the same person sitting behind the keyboard you should be accountable for what you say and do.

I asked people yesterday what the point of alts was, and imo the first two responses hit the nail on the head.

1. To play tourneys or lower tables you would otherwise be excluded from due to point caps (no need for anonymity)

2. To behave in a way outside of the "norm" for your main, without the repercussions

I have maybe 5 people per day spectate and heavily troll me. Granted 3/5 are Shannon's alts, but still. It just got me thinking, why protect the identity of people who primarily use alts to troll? What valid reason is there for anonymity?

Just on the topic of Shannon (or any trouble makers who are breaking the rules by playing alts while banned) it would help the mods by allowing the community to police and report accounts. At the moment we just have to speculate if an account is Shannon or not, just to use him as an example.

Just my two cents!

I want to disagree with you but I've been trolled by BDK's alts in the past and can understand how it's annoying.

If this feature was added it should be a punishment for trollers instead of for those people who enjoy alts without trolling

"5 people per day spectate and heavily troll me".

LOL. Someone is popular. To be fair though most of them probably aren't trollers, just people you've pissed of... Which I'm sure is a lot considering how often you complain here on Kdice.

Just my $0.02!

I think you have missed the point. This is not a whine about people abusing me, it was just an example of what people use alts for. I notice you friended me the other day Higgin and I have no idea who you are. Case in point perhaps?

Gurgi - having alts is 100% ok, but why is there a need to be anonymous? Even if someone is being troublesome, and everyone knows they are an alt, it's a heavily guarded secret by the mods to not give away their main. I understand having a line in the sand, I'm just questioning the logic behind it.

Also - this isn't about me specifically Higgin so please don't derail the thread. This is just a general suggestion / call for opinions about the topic of alts.

If your replies are going to center around how much I deserve to be trolled, just don't bother please. I get it, I'd rather talk about the actual topic.

Nah THRILLHO, I "followed" you, since my following list is primarily built up of people that I find annoying as shit, so I know when to avoid these players, or in certain circumstances stab them. This isn't against the rules to do this.

You have no idea who I am? Yeah, right. I've played you quite a few times recently of which many of these times you have cried like no tomorrow at myself. But since you don't want to make this about me or you, I will kindly shut the fuck up about that.

To discuss what you brought up. I disagree. There are plenty of others reasons to have alts that you did not state. 1) I.e. just wanting to have an account that has a clean record, no ban logs, no bad reviews. No enemies etc. 2) Simply wanting a different / unique sounding name. 3) To PGE other players that have previously fucked you over for example. All of these but "2" are perfectly legit reasons to keep alts anonymous.

The mods should be able to tell the difference by to the lvl of the players that are talking shit, since most troll accounts are recently created, most likely below level 10. If you have a level 60 going off his head, it's quite unlikely that he would be Shannon these days.

I like playing alts, especially secret ones. It gives me the opportunity to play quietly, without players asking me mod stuff while I'm trying to play a few relaxed games.

It also gives me the opportunity to keep an eye out while still playing.

I think secret alts should be respected until someone does unacceptable things like trolling, cheating, abusive chatting, bullying etc.

That's about the current mod policy about alts and I think it doesn't need to be modified unless a clear majority of the players feels like it needs to change.

That's all this was jurg, my opinion and a request for other opinions. Being a mod is a bit different. I see that as a valid reason for being incognito. I was GM many moons ago on Ultima Online. The second you show up you get bombarded with requests and complaints.

In response to you Higgin, they are vaild reasons to have an alt, but not reasons you need to have the identity secret and protected.

1) I.e. just wanting to have an account that has a clean record, no ban logs, no bad reviews. No enemies etc.
** I would argue that if you do the crime you should have it on your record. It's the same person playing each of the accounts, so there's no reason the history shouldn't follow them around.

2) Simply wanting a different / unique sounding name.
** Again, this is fine but there's no reason for this to be a secret. You can play under a new name and still have people know who you are.

3) To PGE other players that have previously fucked you over for example
** This is the common example I'm referring to. People who make alts to pge people in secret, troll people in secret etc. I don't see how it is beneficial to the community. In my opinion it just gives people an avenue to cause trouble.

So just to reiterate, I'm not calling for alts to be disallowed. I'm asking for good reasons why they should be kept secret.
