I've been struggling with the decision for a while (because it's such a sad call to make) but I think it it was best for KDice and even for BDK himself.

Quick question: when considering new mods, did yall do the standard crowd-sourcing with a mod-recommendation discussion thread? If so, I'm surprised that bdk was a popular choice. Did he used to be much more positive and helpful, and then once he became a mod, the power turned him into an asshole? I'm genuinely surprised he survived the vetting process.

But then again, Ali is a mod too now, so what do I know.

I could elaborate on all the criteria that I think make a good mod. They're kinda obvious actually. It's also important that they don't score bad in any of the criteria.

Obviously, there's no perfect candidate so you gotta work with what you got.

I've tried to get Kdice some new mods for years. Being unsuccessful in that while still achieving other things when bringing them to Ryan's attention shows how hard it is/was. I've become very sceptical now too. It's just superhard to find a good KDice mod.

I've suggested a few people to Ryan before, without success and actually, in retrospect, I'm happy that none of the ones I suggested actually became mod because afterwards, their actions proved that they would not have been a good choice given the power. All except you Monte, I still think you'd be a good choice if you could be around enough :).

My best candidates ever actually never wanted the responsibility of being a mod which is actually more proof to me that they'd be great, since they weren't powerhungry and could have easily said sure and just taken the badge for the power.

OK, still drifting off. So for Int and BDK, I was a bit short on time. We were actively discussing about making Exonym an Xsketch mod. Another bad decission imo since the guy actually left Xsketch a few days before he became a mod lol. I had been talking to Int for a while, checking if he was mod material or not (I still think he's doing well btw, with some minor things to work on). So when the Exonym nomination process started, I figured this was the perfect time again to try to get more Kdice mods.

I strongly lobbied for Int because I believed he had very good potential. BDK came into the picture much later. He got word that int might become mod and contacted me, asking why he was never considered as a mod.

So lol, I actually told him why (my fear that he would be more trigger happy to ban than me, his ego, etc). But we had a few long, good chats and he convinced me he was going to be level headed and a team player. I was actually convinced that he would grow into the mod job. So at the last day, maybe a bit earlier, I suggested Ryan to add bdk too. In retrospect, I made a bad call there.

Anyway, I wasn't looking for the easy or most obvious picks. I wanted mature-ish people that could earn the community's respect but that weren't afraid to ban high level players if needed (not just as powerabuse ofc, but actually have the balls and the level headedness to also do the inpopular bans).

More anyways, I'm going to be away from Kdice for 3 ish days so I'm not going to be able to follow-up on this topic quickly.

The whole thing is just a giant lol. The final lol is BDK - a guy who ordinarily won't shut the fuck up vanishing when his mod powers are revoked. My guess is he retires that account and hides on a new alt for a long time.
