New Rule by Int

He basically begged me to make this thread for him so I will.

It is now considered sexist to use the word "Cunt" in any context even if youre not insulting someone and will be banned with -chat if said.

The reason is that it's sexist to say it
and the reason that it's sexist is cause: "google it"

The reason saying dick isn't sexist but cunt is: "i dont feel like having this conversation anymore"

What is sexism? Well I spent my entire career on kdice not paying attention to anything girls said but I guess that's fine.

If someone does google sexism maybe someone can help me where it says that saying cunt is gender prejudice while calling someone a dick is just a laughable matter.

--------------------------

Int then agreed he doesn't care about sexism he just wants to ban people who use cunt.

which isn't anywhere in the rules that you can ban someone because of foul language.

I can see if it was harassing but if I lose a 4v2 roll and almost get banned for saying cunt because of it then I'd like to understand why

I agree with Int. Cunt is sexist to start with and dick is not. By the way, I already don't feel like having this conversation anymore.

Oh, another case of testing the new teacher in school :)

There is no new rule, we even clarified or restated the "rules" concerning offensive language in the blog post (http://kdice.com/blog/93)

Basically all these offensive words fall in the same category: cunt, nigger, faggot etc. Imo, there are limits on the use of dick too: if someone really abuses that word to constantly attack someone, I would give a warning for that too.

So it's not only the word itself, but also context and intent to hurt or harass. And why do people still pretend they don't know that this has never been a black or white thing (moderate amount of pun intended), this is a 50 shades of grey thing.

I guess black or white rules are easier to follow but jeez, do we really have to ban every offensive word? or just allow anything? Even though the 2nd option would maybe work for a community of only adult, arrogant, egocentric jerks with a thick skin, the KDice community is much more diverse so it will NOT happen. As far as option 1 goes: none of the mods wants an overmodded KDice so if you can agree (and even if you can't), we will continue to moderate with moderation and with common sense.

If cunt is sexist then dick should be as well. Calling anyone any anatomical term should be dealt with by a ban.

Or int could just resign as mod.

I literally lost a 4v2 roll and said cunt, not directed at anyone.

then int logged on and gave me a warning for being sexist.

also, im personally shocked youre comparing cunt and nigger side by side as equally bad words.

I said they all fall in the same category where context, frequency of use, history and intent matters. I even explained that seemingly less foul words like dick can become "too much" at a certain point. Same for nigger and cunt: of course they don't meet the same criteria but I would not be surprised if they feel just as bad for some people.

Anyway Gurg, I don't think you're really that shocked about my words (but good attempt at creating some drama). Any normal person with some common sense can understand the logic behind the grey area in the chat guidelines/rules.

Tbh, if we're ever forced towards a more black and white rule, it will most likely be the zero tolerance rule. So I think most people will prefer the current moderate and situation-based tolerant approach

To end on a postive note: it's friday! Instead of all the negativity and whining, let's all just have a great weekend!

I honestly was shocked. Why do people assume my emotions.

cunt is just a word with no meaning behind it besides female genitalia. if someone complains to you saying they are offended and you say, why? they will say it's vulgar. Cool.

If someone complains cause someone said nigger you dont need to ask why. Because that word actually is offensive just by itself.

Also, I don't believe you actually took a stance you just said the same thing twice about black and white and words will be banned based on how youre feeling.

I want a less black and white rule.

For example:
If I lose a roll and say cunt are you saying cunt is so vulgar of a word that It is now just a ban on site word?

if I lose a roll and tell the guy to suck on a dick and choke on it is it fine since I'm not saying any bad word?
not being racist, or homophobic.

My point isn't to bring drama it's to understand the rules since mods are going around warning me saying I will be banned after not being informed. Cunt was never a word that was bannable unless you called someone it more than once and they had to be offended by it

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cunt

I tried to get rid of the copy paste character errors but I'm sure they'll still be there so sorry. You can read on wiki if it's not readable enough.

Cunt s slang for female genitalia and is a term of abuse for women and men.It is widely considered to be vulgar. The earliest known use of the word, according to the Oxford English Dictionary, was as a placename for the London street Gropecunt Lane, c 1230. Scholar Germaine Greer said in 2006 that cunt "is one of the few remaining words in the English language with a genuine power to shock."

Use of the word as a term of abuse is relatively recent, dating from the late nineteenth century. Reflecting different national usages, cunt is described as "an unpleasant or stupid person" in the Compact Oxford English Dictionary, whereas Merriam-Webster has a usage of the term as "usually disparaging and obscene: woman",noting that it is used in the U.S. as "an offensive way to refer to a woman"; and the Macquarie Dictionary of Australian English gives "a contemptible person." When used with a positive qualifier (good, funny, clever, etc.) in Britain, New Zealand, and Australia, it can convey a positive sense of the object or person referred to.

The word appears to have not been strongly taboo in the Middle Ages, but became taboo towards the end of the eighteenth century, and was then not generally admissible in print until the latter part of the twentieth century. The term has various derivative senses, including adjective and verb uses.

Offensiveness
Generally

The word cunt is generally regarded in English-speaking countries as unsuitable for normal public discourse. It has been described as "the most heavily tabooed word of all English words",although John Ayto, editor of the Oxford Dictionary of Slang, says "nigger" is more taboo.

*******

Personally, I don't care too much which is worst: cunt or nigger. Some people take offence to both, or only to one or to neither of the 2. The rules should reflect the general opinion and I think a majority would not like either words to be used freely.

I could be wrong but then please find me a gaming site or a public forum site that explicitly allows these words.

You ask for more clear rules which is a valid question. Unfortunately I cannot give a quotum for each word (like using cunt twice a day is ok, nigger only once a month, etc. ).

I know I sound vague but in reality it's pretty much case by case. I just wish that common sense in what someone says and does would be obvious for everyone.

I'll be clear and say that personally I would not have warned you if I saw you say cunt after losing a roll. However, if you say it and Int sees it and he asks you not to use it, I don't see a problem with that either. It's not like a ban and bottom line: it's true that we must try and avoid the use of the word.

I only recall banning for the use of cunt 2 or 3 times on Kdice but I also remember various times where I asked not to use that word when I saw it. What's wrong with asking nicely? That's also the case for any other chat abuse. If the person refuses to listen, I will surely make my warning more clear (I'll add that the person risks a ban if he continues). The person doesn't even need to apologise but I at least expect the person to be cool with it and stop. Then, as far as I am concerned it's all forgiven and forgotten.

Man, why am I actually still spending so much time on this silly thing? I guess part of me wants you to understand that the use of cunt is not so OK but I guess I'll have to leave that up to your good will to understand somewhat.

Part of understanding it is having some empathy for other people and their feelings or particular taboo words. Sometimes it surprises me how some people react outraged about the use of some of the words like faggot, nigger, cunt, nazi, jew, retard, pedophile,... but are totally emotionless when it comes to the abuse of other words on the same list. So if they don't understand why a certain word is such a big deal to some, they only have to think about the outrage they feel when someone uses his or her own taboo words.

Actually this shows how complex the entire matter is (screw it, going for the tldr now): there are so many words to consider, so many situations and you can't please all or be perfectly consistent all the time.

So the best way to please as many people as possible is to ask for common sense and moderation in the use of certain words. Best situation would be to voluntarily not use any of them. If the words are being used anyway, it's up to the mods to handle it. Sometimes it's best to let a harmless thing pass but sometimes a gentle warning is best. Sometimes a firm warning is best and heck, sometimes an immediate ban is best.

Sigh, this is probably going to raise more questions or remarks but I give up for now: it's actually not that hard to not get in trouble and simply have fun!
