I can clearly feel that your method of calculating this stat is statistically sound, but still, I can hardly contain my ill feelings about it.

The first three guys here had
797
472
and 535 games in August

Sure this means, we can make a confident judgement on their kill skills.

The last three had
8
17
36
and I know that this means that this provides a sample that is too small to say anything about them.

Still, wouldn't you find it baffling that jurgen achieved 4 kills in 8 matches (1 every second match) and is third from behind while Nichele had 238 in 535 (once every 2.24 matches) and is in the top 3? Isn't this stat skewed in favour of more games played?

I always hated statistics, but I strongly feel it would make more sense to first subtract [Number Of Games]*[The Average Number Of Kills Per One Game On KDice*] from the [Kill Counts] before dividing by [SQRT(NRofGames)], to only count the kills achieved in excess of the expected number of kills (=certainly not zero). Someone Should Write A Paper On This.

As an alternative, I think you could also demean the variable by subtracting

[Number of Games Played]/[The Average Number of Games Needed By An Average Player to Achieve One Kill*]

From their number of kills. That would be interesting!

*On Average, Averaged Over All Average Games

Using the Average Number of Games Needed By An Average Player to Achieve One Kill (TANGNBAPAOK)is a good suggestion because the number of kills is not under the complete control of those doing the killing because losing players can flag out instead of, or just before, being killed, thus reducing the kill count.

As for the bias for number of games, that is to encourage more kills. Integral recently scored six kills. If kills/game was the measure, and that was the first and only game integral had played, integral would not want to play any more games for risk of lowering his score. We want to see more six-kill performances from integral.

Also, under the new rules, part of kill skill is encouraging losing players to allow their 50 kill points to be harvested (sort of like organ donations). So to improve kill skill, think of playing in a way that would encourage people to be willing to donate their organs to you.

Yo, I think you misunderstood me there. I was not suggesting that you should use kills/games as a standalone stat, only that you might want to subtract the global average from the killcount before dividing by sqrt(#games). This way, there's still an incentive for integral to play, becuse he can improve his score. (But since 1-9 might be too small a sample to say anything about his deadliness, it might be best to not calculate the stat anyways).

Suppose that an average player has 0.1 kills per game (likely too low but this is just an example). Thus, Michele has 0.1*535=53.5 subtracted from his killcount. Dividing by sqrt(#games) gives (238-53.5=184.5).

Ahgrr, so dividing by sqrt(#games) gives 184.5/(535^0.5)=7.97, still higher than 5.9 thus beating integral.

May I use a metaphor of why I think the stat in its current form is useless. Suppose John Doe and Jane Doe want to determine if they are more skilled in flipping coins than the other player. The skill stat they use is the number of tails per root coin flips.

John has a weird coin allowing him to get 630 tails in just 1000 flips. He is content with his score of 19.92 and retires.

Still, Jane is determined to beat him. She flips coins day and night, ending up with 499991 tails in 1000000 flips. She achieves a score of 499.991 and wins the competition.

Was that competition fair?
