And these bans are not about personal taste. I could care less about your avatar or any other type of nudity. But this is a site for kids too and Ryan set the limits where he wants so I (and all mods) just try to take action based on his guidelines.

Also Ryan and his moderators over in gpokr land seem quite tolerant of harmless representations of nudity (so long as it's in good taste). I forgot the thread in question but Monte linked to some gpokr guy's profile who had an animated anthropomorphic penis cartoon. Apparently the dude had played a few hands with Ryan and Ryan sure as shit didn't care.

But I wonder what Ryan values more, the very little if any traffic he gets from children (who btw have seen a lot worse if theyre on the Internet) or the money of paying members. So did Ryan tell you mods to get fascist strict on avatars or are you and amber just taking it upon yourselves to hassle this guy? Same would go for BR if he was here to answer (although I know he still lurks).

I have often wondered at the disjointed logic of people who assert that a little crime is ok simply because larger crimes are perpetrated by others. In Veta's mind it is ok for people who buy political privileges to break the rules simply because they have paid the price of admission. I do not subscribe to that belief.

In the case of Apa, he was told to remove an objectionable avatar, then put immediately put it back up. He then replaced it with an avatar that implicitly called me a dick. I was ok with that, but warned him that other mods might not be. And, indeed, another mod was not ok with it. Apa knew the risk, he took the risk, and he lost the roll. That's how it goes.

Now he has apparently persisted in believing that he has unlimited free speech rights in a private community. He does not. Because of his intransigence and inability to comport himself in a way that complies with the rules of the community, he has been censured. That's how it goes. If you are too stubborn, or too stupid to recognize that your tilting at windmills will end up with you being hoisted by your petard upon one of the vanes, then you will suffer the consequences.

Veta believes in the value of anarchy. The mods believe in the value of structure. I side with the mods.
