Do you really think that Republicans are that different from Democrats? Obviously on the surface you have your major differences in ideology, but the fact that you support Obama so loyally and think that Republicans are so very evil makes me think you are quite ignorant. Did you not notice the whole launching 122 missiles into Libya thing? What's up with that imperialist bullshit? Oh and how bout the whole economic "stimulus" plan? Can you really argue that it was any different than Bush's bailout? Throughout his campaign, Barack emphasized how he would put the money into the hands of the people, not the other way around. What about all his talks about moving away from the heated bipartisanship and bringing about cooperation to advance our national agenda? Bottom line is that Obama is full of shit. Everything he says is a load, and if you don't see past that, you are a moron. You guys need to get over your political parties, they mean nothing. Start voting on the issues.
Anyways, I know this hasn't been the most articulate post in the world, but I'll leave with you a quote from 2007: ?The President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation. History has shown us time and again, however, that military action is most successful when it is authorized and supported by the Legislative branch.? I'll let you guess who said it. |

at 1:07 AM, Wednesday March 30, 2011 EDT Got my councils mixed up, nicea was actually before Synod of Hippo which is what I was referring to: ttp://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synod_of_Hippo
Certainly much of the canon was recognized and known before it was made official in 393, but obviously there's a vast disparity between 150ad (when the gospels were recognized) and 400ad when they were made official... which is the period these newly discovered texts will give insight to. Seriously why does skrum always focus on semantics rather than actually meaning or substance? You're an enabler Monte. |

at 1:09 AM, Wednesday March 30, 2011 EDT Also synod wasn't an ecumenical council which is probably why I had no recollection of the actual name. (we had to know the ecumenicals and time periods of events in church history for my church history class in high school).

at 1:22 AM, Wednesday March 30, 2011 EDT i grew up presbyterian, and we had to memorize the apostles creed. then there was a major brouhaha as the church decided that it was more correct for everyone to memorize the nicene creed. and then we all had to memorize the westminster catechism. yeesh. sunday school was never much fun.
my favorite experience with catholics happened a few years back when one of my wifes best friends got married and i got to attend my first genuine catholic wedding. i was upset because the entire service was standard catholic stuff, and everyone on cue would start reciting the rite stuff (nice pun). but i didnt know anything, and i so wanted to join in. finally, the priest started the lords prayer and i was like SWEET I GOT THIS. so im feeling all proud/cocky that i finally can join in with the rest of the crowd. our father in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and (here i got really cocky because i knew that whereas presbys grow up saying 'forgive us our debts', that catholics use the word trespass instead) and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. at this point the entire crowd shut up, because little to my knowledge, catholics stop the prayer there. me and my dumb flamboyance charged right into: FOR THINE IS.... and then i quickly realized that everyones heads around me whipped around to stare me down. and i was like, oh shit. now they know im protestant. shit shit shit shit. |

at 2:22 AM, Wednesday March 30, 2011 EDT skrum, nice to see you accept scientific methods like junk DNA analysis. I hope you also accept that this method (combined with other genetic analytic methods) was used to trace back how different species evolved and diverged from each other over time (the phylogenetic tree of life).
For example, they discovered that the genomes of humans and mice diverged from a common ancestor approx. 65–75 million years ago. An error made in a manustscript is likely to be transmitted to copies made from it, like a mutation, but will be absent from manuscripts that have a different "ancestor". So working backward in time, more and more of the errors can be removed. |
