Ah I agree with you monte, we need to cut unnecessary spending where ever it is in the budget. But at the same time I don't think cutting is the solution, I think a dramatic restructuring of the governments spending is in order. That is to say completely changing the way we give out government contracts, especially defense contracts which are the most expensive, end corporate welfare, change the subsidy systems we have in place (which are basically corporate welfare), subsidize useful policies like green energy and creating jobs, and universalize healthcare, that alone would cut down our spending a great deal.

Anyway I heard someone say this before but I forgot who - cuts demonstrate what your society prioritizes. I think we should cut the military (the cold war is over) and we should revise the healthcare system dramatically. Social security is a fight for another day.

As far as what this "starve the beast" strategy has netted the United States, it's a large gain in GDP over 30 years that has somehow only been allocated to the richest 5%, mostly the richest 1%. Check out the second graph here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Income_inequality_in_the_United_States

Oh and yeah I hated the Bush bailout as well. We got none of that money back and there were no provisions in how we would get it back. I liked all of Obama's stuff though since it was all deficit neutral (we get all the money back eventually).

I never ate much taco bell but when I came back home for thanksgiving last year our local taco bell was all over the news for health code violations. Apparently one of the employees at taco bell was literally shitting into the meat grinder and human feces was being mixed into the taco meat, (I know legally it's not meat but I don't know what to call it) anyway since then I haven't gone to a single taco bell and in fact I've cut out fast food all together. I think I'm better for it.


The people that work those jobs are generally unhappy with their station in life, who knows what else they do.

I worked at a Taco Bell for 2-1/2 years during high school. One of the funnest jobs I ever had.

(I never shat in the meat grinder either!)
