hey friends. <3
My ultimate frisbee team this spring has the name "Team America" for the back of our jersey instead of names we do things we love about America.

We have:
Trucks
Segregation
Hooters
Kid Rock
Liposuction
Chingy
Jeggings
Blunts
Forties
S. Palin

I need a killer name, I was thinking Jeggings or J, Fischer

any ideas? only the funniest of answers will be considered

You're probably pro-unions too.....despite probably never holding a full-time job. Maybe you can quote another wiki article on the benefits of unions?

I'm actually a populist thraxle, I call for social controls (not stupid shit like same-sex marriage bans) and economic controls.

Liberals are for personal freedoms and economic regulations which in my opinion isn't enough.

Conservatives are for social controls that enforce traditionalism and the nuclear family and are also for deregulating all the regulations we have in place to protect ordinary americans

You'll be a Republican by age 35-1/2. Anyone taking that bet? Over/under?

Vermont, the government, unlike corporations, is not designed to continually grow itself. However certain people over history have simply exploited their positions to further their own power and agendas, and over time, this has resulted in the far reaching powers of our modern federal government whose distant ancestor was a loose confederation of states.

Thraxle, as a conservative you are interested in decreasing person freedom, if you are not then you are not a conservative, perhaps you are a libertarian. If you are I'd like to direct you to Ron Paul whom I very much applaud and like despite not sharing his political ideology.

Watch that, if you like Ron Paul you are probably a libertarian and I will probably be at odds with you less because that philosophy actually makes some sense.

And Rob, I have no doubt I will become more conservative as I grow older and I think I know better. But the truth is I am not rash in my deliberation, and I will not change my philosophy easily, nor should I, because I feel it is quite sound.

i do appreciate how well veta knows his shit. seems like he educates himself before he makes a decision. its one of the bright sides of our democracy. i still disagree with him on a lot of his ideals, but i am proud to have him as an american.

Oh and one last thing Rob, you seem to have this notion that liberals have some unjust or unknowable reason for wanting the government to do things that it hasn't done before.

I'll be frank, if you don't know by now if there's a way to skim something off the top and get away with it people will do it. Just look at the health care system and the military-industrial complex. The reason anybody wants an entity like the government to exist is because the government is the closest thing we have to a referee in life. If someone says they want the referee to be around less, to watch less, to care less I have to ask: what possible benefit do these people gain from the referee being around less?

and i like ron paul because theres a certain level of simplicity to him. whereas most bills are 700 pages long with who-knows-how-much-shit hidden in those pages, his tend to be concise. just googled for 2 minutes, and apparently he just put out a bill against the TSA called the american traveller dignity act. here it is in COMPLETE form:

*************************************
A BILL
To ensure that certain Federal employees cannot hide behind immunity.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
This Act may be cited as the ‘‘American Traveller Dignity Act of 2010’’.
SEC. 2. NO IMMUNITY FOR CERTAIN AIRPORT SCREENING METHODS.
No law of the United States shall be construed to confer any immunity for a Federal employee or agency or any individual or entity that receives Federal funds, who subjects an individual to any physical contact (including contact with any clothing the individual is wearing), x-rays, or millimeter waves, or aids in the creation of or views a representation of any part of a individual’s body covered by clothing as a condition for such individual to be in an airport or to fly in an aircraft. The preceding sentence shall apply even if the individual or the individual’s parent, guardian, or any other individual gives consent.
******************************************

that is the ENTIRE bill. that doesnt even qualify as a wall of text. i like that about ron paul. he doesnt make govt seem complicated, and speaks simple english in his bills.

also, i like him because i won about $200 on a $5 craps table because someone wearing a ron paul shirt was destroying the house.

Again, you're asking complex questions that delve into the very heart of why each of us believe what we believe. I'd rather more power lie in the states with the feds keeping their nose out of things. I'd rather we let Arizona protect their border in a way that they see fit. I'd rather Wisconsin be allowed to cut it's budget in a manner that allows the state to remain solvent.

Having the federal government continue to grow exponentially and control more of our lives is wrong. If our great nation ever falls I want it to be because THE PEOPLE didn't do enough to stop it from happening, not because our elected officials fucked it up.

veta if i understood you correctly, you are saying the govt is a referee? theres no way you can be that naive. do you realize how much "skimming" the govt does for itself? it sickens me. its mindnumbing what the returns have been on those $700B bailouts that happened during the bush and obama administrations. jobs were created at like $1M per job. that shit was so terribly unregulated. and it was the govt that supposedly was in charge of it. blech.
