Hyped up about the new season?
Excellent acquisitions of....
Mark Reynolds (BA 0.198 last season) and
J.J. Hardy (BA 0.100 in playoffs last year) are sure to make a big splash with the orioles!
They should fit right in!

As a Yankee fan, I'm sure you're excited about the fact that they were able to resign Jeter. As a matter of fact, I'm pretty excited about it too! The man is not only washed up, but he'll be in the lineup almost every day!!!! He's a liability in the field, he can't hit for power anymore, and they gave him $17 million per year for 3 years.

Life is good! The RedSox are going to beat the shit out of the Yankees this season, even if the Yanks sign Cliff Lee.

And may I remind you, Jesse, that the Yankees have spent upwards of $2 billion in salaries over the past decade and it has won them ONE title. ONE.......UNO.......UN. That's just one more title than the Orioles have won in that same time frame, for a fraction of the price!!!

Brian Cashman is the WORST GM in the history of sports. He has unlimited resources in an unfair financial setup and he still can't get it right.

Thank God for the Celtics, at least they can entertain me till June...

Jesse, I revel in the fact that despite the Yankees spending wrecklessly every year, there's almost always somebody better than them. This year it will be the Red Sox. If the Red Sox are better than the Yankees, then this inflicts pain and sorrow upon Yankee Nation. This is a good thing in my eyes, which makes me a default Red Sox fan simply because I enjoy seeing Yankees fans suffer.

Capiche?

i disagree with that line of reasoning thrax. you seem to be putting more emphasis on being an antifan than a fan. i mean, as a braves fan, ive hated the yanks, and will never ever ever root for them. but my order of priorities is:

1) root for braves until they're eliminated
2) root for lower-salary teams
3) root for underdogs

i mean, fuck the red sox too. theyre just nyy jr, arent they? if i had to cheer for one or the other, id go for the sox, but goddamn, the sox are like 29/30 on my list.

bah, i live in richmond, and was happy to watch the richmond braves, but our city really fucked things up, and the braves smartly got out of town. so the giants came in with the flying squirrels. meh, guess that works for a minor league team name. my buddy recommended the say-heys, as a shoutout to willie mays. but they didnt like that idea. boo.

I'll root for the Orioles until it looks like they won't make the playoffs......so come late April early May, once our record is about 9-17, I'm concentrating the rest of my efforts on ragging on the Yankees at every possible moment. Yes, the Red Sox are #2 in salary, but they aren't #1. I've always hated the Yankees and I know the only thing Yankees hate more than losing is to see the Red Sox winning. Thus, I root for the Red Sox.

This has to do with a lot of different aspects of both teams.

Let's start with owners. Theo seems like a pretty cool guy that I'd like to have a beer with......The Steinbrenner's are pretentious fucks who would probably kill their first born just to win a pennant.

As for fans, Red Sox fans are pretty cool most of the time. They've suffered during a part of their lives and they remember what it was like to suffer. They still appreciate the fact that they've won and they relish the opportunity to compete regularly. Yankees fans are assholes and full of themselves most of the time. Every generation of Yankees fans has had something to love and cheer for at some point and they don't fully appreciate it. Plus, New Yorkers are bigger dicks than Bostonians. Plus, I root for the Celtics (and have ever since I was a kid), so I have a bit of allegiance to the city, whereas I hate almost every team from New York with the exception of the Mets and that's only because Norfolk was the AAA farm team for the Mets up until a few years ago.

Now, let's talk about the players. Big Papi and Manny were funny as shit when they played together, and nobody was more clutch. The Yankees have A-Rod.....the ultimate cash whore and sellout. The only player I can even halfway tolerate on the Yankees is Jeter, and that took a big hit with his negotiating tactics used this offseason (which I'm actually glad he didn't go to another team because his presence in the lineup every day makes the Yankees infinitely weaker). I hated Clemens and his butt-buddy Pettite who followed him to Houston. I can't stand Texieria because he shunned his hometown Orioles to go play for the Evil Empire. Mike Mussina defected from my O's to go to NYY and the day he left I put THE MOTHER FUCKING HEX ON HIM SAYING THAT THEY WOULDN'T WIN A TITLE WHILE HE WAS A YANKEE!!!!!!....and they didn't......they won the year after.

I pretty much hate everything about the Yankees and I'm sure on some level that I won't admit to that envy is involved.

In closing, fuck the Yankees........GO RED SOX.
