SO excited for the Texas Rangers. It's time. Only major league team to never win a post season series. Cliff Lee finally clicking when it matters.

And how about that Roy Halladay no hitter... amazing.

if greinke can't handle the pressures and social anxiety of pitching in KC, he is going to BREAK in NY

Angels are the only team you have mentioned so far that make any sense. No northeast team really would be good for him.

I am curious about what point you are trying to make though.

The point that good young talent never lasts for a small market team since they can't afford them when free agency comes around. The Rays will get dismantled in this offseason or the next too. The money teams will continue to at least have success winning games and packing the seats with fans. The Mets and Cubs are the only bad examples since their management is about as bad as it gets.

There is a reason the Yankees win year in year out and it's not because Cashman is some amazing GM. They can afford to keep their good home grown talent (Jeter, Cano, Rivera, etc.), and they can also bring in other teams home grown talent. It's an unbalanced system that will never correct itself.

I've posted stats like this before, but I'll do it again. I know there is "minimal" profit sharing in MLB and that the Yanks shell out a shitload of money in luxury tax, but it still doesn't even come close to closing the gap in the amount of money the Yanks can spend in comparison to most other teams. For example:

Yankees vs. Royals

Average Ticket Price
Yankees: $72.97
Royals: $19.38

Average Attendance
Yankees: 46,491
Royals: 19,942

Per Game Gate
Yankees: $3,392,448
Royals: $ 386,475

Yearly Gate
Yankees: $274,788,288
Royals: $ 31,304,475

That's an additional $243,000,000 in revenue the Yankees have JUST OFF OF TICKET SALES. Obviously they make more in concessions, memorabilia, radio, TV deals, advertising, etc...

Until a hard salary cap is in place this disparity will always exist and Major League Baseball will continue to cater to the rich teams.

Those were 2009 statistics and the Yankees paid a whopping $25.7 million luxury tax. That's less than the salary of Alex Rodriguez this year......$33 million.

Fucking Republicans always want to protect the rich fat cat owners and keep money from the working players. To top it off you are arguing for some type of communist anti-free market salary cap? FFS hypocrite much?

Okay hyperbole aside, I could give fuck all if teams like the Yankees and Red Sox can compete every fucking year well a team like the Devil Rays has shorter windows and has to rebuild, that encourages innovation for smaller market teams.

Salary caps wont create any more parity than already exists in MLB. Baseball has had the most different number of teams win championships in the last 20 years.

Teams like the Royals and Pirates cannot keep their own talent because they were or are run by morons. Sure money would help but if you are a moron and would just spend it badly than you deserve to have a shitty team.

Nothing makes me want to punch you right in the mouth more than arguing for a hard salary cap in baseball, fuck you could say you are "birther" and I would have more respect for you.

Also abolish the draft FFS, that only encourages incompetence and limits players earning potential.

umm Rob...your argument has no merit...when The Boss purchased the Yankees, they were worth no more than the next team. He built them into what they are, and that is what makes them a dynasty

GB, my argument has plenty of merit. The business model of big game sports today is vastly different than what it was in the 1970s. To compare the two is asinine.

Why would you bring politics into this Sam when my political views have nothing to do with my views of competitive integrity in sports. Besides, I do not want the owners to pocket the money. I want them to "redistribute" it properly across the entire league. MLB is a business entity and without an entire baseball league the Yankees would not exist. The fact that I want to redistribute the cash is completely contrary to my political views so your use of the term Republican in this light is both incorrect and undesirable.

I read an article earlier this year where people were infuriated by the fact that the Pirates owner pocketed $20million in cash last year despite having the worst team in baseball. Much of this cash came from the minimal profit sharing that exists now, but people were stunned that they did not reinvest these profits into the team. The Pirates had a TOTAL salary of $34mil last year ($1mil more than A-Roid), so what good would it do them to spend $20mil more to win about 5 more games during the season and bring in next to zero in additional revenue.

The system is broken and the only decent options is to put in a hard salary cap with a more sensible distribution of revenue sharing, or contract the league to about 20-22 teams since that is about all that are viable anyways. The Yankees/Mets/Red Sox/Angels/Cubs are not the greatest money machines simply because they win(the Mets & Cubs do not), they are money machines due to their location. They are located in regions of the US with high populations, high incomes, and disposable cash. This is what gives them the means to buy players every year, not some mystical notion that these teams are destined for greatness or they win every year. There is a reason football is the greatest sport in the U.S. now and it is due to teams having the chance to improve and be good on a more regular basis. Sure there are NFL teams that thrive for long periods of time, but that is usually due to maintaining one or two key players that keep those teams great (think Peyton Manning or Tom Brady). Until MLB changes their ways I will continue to bitch and moan about the lack of fairness in the game.

Yes, I am a bitter Orioles fans...fuck the Yankees.

GO RANGERS!!! 8-0 YEAH BABY!!! CLIFF LEE!!!
