Everyone hates white people. I mean - white people are pretty terrible to be around.

I must agree with Kreuz here. There were many inaccurate and badly researched points in the article. On top of that, the author of this article is constantly being selective in the points he's presenting.

One very disturbing point is how the author assumes that all those far right parties are somehow identical. I think it's obvious that the Swiss SVP can't be compared to France' National Front. Same goes for Kreuz' example. All those parties have different histories and different manifestos.

The most ridiculous point, however, is how he tries to describe the German Social Democrats as a party that uses anti-immigration debates to get new voters. Truly pathetic I must say and completely taken out of context.

Another point where the author is being deliberately inaccurate to prove his point, is when he said that "even the business minister of David Cameron's Conservative government talked about the evils of capitalism...".
Well, that particular minister doesn't belong to the Conservative party but to the Liberal Democrats which is a rather leftish party.

Also this:
"Despite squeals from employers worried about such crude protectionism, David Cameron has to throw some anti-foreigner, anti-immigrant red meat to voters who last year sent two far-right British National Party politicians to the European Parliament".
This is another ridiculous statement. This year, the B.N.P. won ZERO seats in the UK general election. I don't get how the author can make this connection...

At the end, when he talks about how the European project is in danger to fail, I even had to ask myself if I'm still reading the same article. That guy spent two and a half pages talking about the populistic right in Europe and then he links this with the "European dream" - it makes no sense.

The good points of the article: It's a true observation that the formerly big parties are losing voters. But I think that's a very realistic process. European societies are getting more complex, so you should also assume that the European party systems get more complex, too.

Well, it's too late for me now to finish my reply... but thanks for the article. It was interesting to read even though it contained many obscure points where I had to ask myself if Newsweek recently lets their interns write the web articles...

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I just wanted to better understand what I was reading. Some of the claims seemed a bit outlandish, but I wanted a more European perspective of it.
