at 2:34 PM, Tuesday July 13, 2010 EDT In that 10 year period only 10 of the 15 AL teams made the playoffs.
In comparison 15/16 NFL teams in the NFC have made the playoffs since 2000. The only team that didn't, the Detroit Lions, made the playoffs in 1999. In the AFC, only the recenlty formed Texans have missed the playoffs since 1999. Baseball has no parity. |

Do you really think Strasburg will be a National in 5 years? |

In the last 10 years, only one of the NFC championship games didnt involve the Giants, Eagles or the Saints. In the same stretch of time, only two AFC Championship games did not involve the Pats, Steelers or Indy. |

at 2:49 PM, Tuesday July 13, 2010 EDT Football may have more people qualify for the playoffs, but thats because a larger % of the teams qualify for the playoffs. I do not feel like going and crunching the numbers to determine how many MLB teams would have made it if the playoffs were expanded, but rest assured, it would be close.
There are ass terrible teams in the MLB (Pirates, Nationals, Orioles) and the same is true for the NFL (Redskins, Lions, Rams). The great thing about sports is that being terrible does not last forever. Eventually, the shitty owner will be fired, the farm system will grow, and the team will eventually become a perennial playoff contender. Not without a lot of hard work and business acumen, which is exactly what the legacy of George Steinbrenner is. He is the Yankees. He built the franchise that succeeds more than any other franchise. |
