Since Patriotism is popular in this forum, i need a little help to understand whats this all about.

I dont get it, how i could possibly take pride for something i cant do anything about?

Can you guys explain it to me?

Thank you Shevar for explaining it.

I get the part with being a patriot, but i still dont understand the "secondary" reasons to feel pride.

Ok i feel proud if someone makes a big achievement in sciences or something else, but thats a person, or a small group.

What i dont get is, how i could feel pride for a politic system (I understand countries as a politic system, since u cant stop foreigners to get in your country)

Thanks in advance to all, for trying to explain.

The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

I was born in Canada, but I'm not white. But I am proud of some aspects of Canada. I don't see anything wrong with being happy about the place you live/were born.

I dont know - actually I dont care - about patriotism imo a childish feeling, but what I know for sure as a european French is that german nationalism revival since the reunification is being killing Europe.
And that's unforgivable.

Unforgivable !

Yeah Int, i get being happy abut the place you live..
I'm not even german but hell yeah i like to live here (opportunities, the speech of freedom sucks less than in Turkey).

But i never would feel the need to say my country is better than yours, or my country is the best (maybe its because i lack of identifying with one country).

So thats what im not getting about patriotism.
The obsession with your country does not feel right, and leads mostly to shitty behaviour against people with a different origin.

But maybe thats cause i live as a foreigner in Germany.
But NO
even in turkey i couldnt live, since they would chase me cause im not a real Turk.

Thats just my observation, but it seems that Patriotism gives you reason to hate foreigners.

And Charles' behaviour seems not right either.

All he does is spreading hate and showing disrepect for other countries. He doesn't like the UK nor does he like Germany.
Now I'm asking you: Do you really think that rants from people like you help Europe to keep growing together?

Believe me, I could address loads of weaknesses France has. starting with people like Le Pen and ending with nuclear energy. But I'm not.
I rather want you to respect countries like the UK or Germany, since they have been Europe's key engines along with France and the BeNeLux countries.

Don't you think it's remarkable how the UK has been able to keep transforming its economy from the motherland of industrialisation to a modern service based society? While at the same time inspiring other countries to use the British strategies.

Also: You should be aware of the close French/German friendship enforced by our leaders (Mitterrand+Kohl or Chirac+Schröder] in the second half of the 20th century and onwards. Remember how both countries said "no" to the war in Iraq, forming a diplomatic axis of peace?
There are other examples how France and Germany work together productively.

So why the destructive hate?

U cant understand that I differenciate policy from "countries".
For you it's the same and that's exactly where the problem is.

But ya I hate (hate indeeed) your garbage press (Focus, Bild, etc) which are so successfull in poisonning people with hate.
There's no equivalent here in France, because citizens dont need it to feel they exist in the world ?

The "Great Nation" has always promoved Europe not as Germany (and the UK for some other reasons but better than yours) which finds it interesting only as long as it's good for Germany. Never a sacrifice from Germany in the name of Europe, never an arbitration.

I dont feel hate, I'm sad and angry. I feel like stolen.

Instead of actually directly commenting on my points, you are only spreading more hate.

Way to have a discussion with you.

Wew, Fullmoon.

I forgot your an expert in hate ?

I can comment your assertions, it's not a problem to me.

Energy: Wew u dont like the atom ? Weeeelll ! That's the reason why Germany is not auto-sufficient there and buys our atom-power energy and at a good price !!! Yeah ! But u mabybe you prefer coal ? Hypocrit !

Le Pen: what's the problem there ?
- People don't vote for him.
- right extrem wings are present in eveery country. But Germany is the only one to get this wonderfull privilege to organize neonazis meetings and demos in Berlin streets one day a year !

etc

U really want me to answer your 0 level asserts ?

Sorry guys to interrupt your discussion, but if u wanna talk about countries like they were people, or spread hate or disses,
CREATE A NEW TOPIC

I'm just trying to understand how yellowfin or Moondust would feel the need to create a topic like

"ten reasons why my Country is better than yours"

Thanks in advance for helpful answers
