33 Mexican soldiers accidentally invade Texas

Mexico soldiers invaded Texas, at least Briefly Tuesday in four Humvees after allegedly losing sight of the line between the two counties, the Monitor reports.
The 33 soldiers were quickly processed by U.S. authorities and allowed to return to Mexico.

The newspaper says U.S. officials who interviewed the soldiers who crossed the Donna-Riot Bravo bridge at Donna could not divulge the reason, other than to say they had crossed inadvertently cause they were high on weed.

But the newspaper says a source described as "outside of law enforcement and with knowledge of border activity: said the soldiers were chasing a South Texas resident who had crossed into Mexico after stealing a lawn ornament from a drug cartel boss.

The Mexican military issued a statement Tuesday evening confirming the involuntary incursion. The troops were from the 8th military zone, the release said, and the incursion took place because the turnaround was located on the U.S side of the bridge.
