Anyone out know the origination of the song "Take Me to the River?"

Well I was shocked and felt pretty stupid to not have known the truth. In fact, I felt like I was robbed of not ever hearing the original tune until last night.

I like a lot of R&B stuff but somehow this awesome tune escaped me.
