Oh i totally forgot Dikembe Mutumbo (when it was my turn at the Gatorade cooler he pushed me out of the way with amazingly over-sweaty arms and said "Gimme Somma Juice") Patrick Ewing (amazingly hillarious dialogue in the training room) and Alonzo Mourning (I didnt really "meet" him but I spotted him in the weight room).

I played tennis with Jimmy Connors on his private court, at his house for half an hour. My tennis coach was his hitting partner for a time so I met him on a few occasions besides going to his house.

The court was one of the worst I ever played on. His idea was if he could play well on that court any other court would be a breeze...He also plays in full warm up gear the whole time in the middle of summer.

my list is not fake.

roger staubach's son is one of my best friends (thats how i met grant hill pat summerall hollywood henderson chris collinsworth)

i was tight with Joe Moore OL coach at ND because I went to football camp 4 years in a row and i was insanely competitive, he gave me a memorable nickname that stuck for 4 years, he lost a bet to me about Cowboys/Cardinals, and I asked and was given unique permission to leave the dorm to meet the ND head basketball coach's daughter who went to junior high with me... it was my dream to play for ND. When it was clear I wasnt going to play football for ND I mentioned something about being part of the team and he had meet the team manager, and I eventually ended up lacing shoes for Bettis and Brooks while while they were sitting in front of each other's lockers. Knowing this story, my friend Pittsburgh Steeler backup QB Mike Quinn told Bettis a story about me eating a 4 pound hambuger (two punds of meat and two pounds of fixins) and showed him a picture of me puking it up in the restaurant.

met bob knight last week when I helped best friend build bobknightsfieldhouse which my family is invested in and i have pics with my kids to prove it

my barry switzer after they played kentucky in '84 and i got on the field and asked for his autograph while he was smoking a cig

played no-limit holdem tourney with jose canseco

met flozell adams in the godiva chocolate shop that my friend during luch break at the galleria

was one of just 20 people that showed up for irvin's autograph at a sporting goods store with my sister and he got mad at me for trying to get too many things signed before my sister too a picture of us

barry corbin sat at our table of my dad's charity

played hooops with derek harper and he missed both shots while i was covering him

met modana at two bars

shared an elevator ride with moose josnston and said hi

met colin farrel at a small casino bar in prague and he tried to give me advice on girls

showed up early for a ross perot presidential rally and i personally started a chant in honor of his wife and he came to our section and said thanks and i was on the cover of usa today election day 1992 holding a sign (rememinds me that my mom is on the newsreels holding a sign for Kennedy right before he was assinated in Dallas)

i have heckled many athletes well enough to get a tip of the hat or eye contact (rickey henderson, jeremy giambi turned and waved at me after i heckled him, albert belle tipped his hat, johnny oates waved at me and quoted me in his resignation speech a while later "unconditional love")

I sort-of hit on Angie Harmon once as i walked past her and said "hey i love your work" and didnt even bother to stop

i was in the training room with my hand in a bowl of iodine (looked like a poor of blood) when patrick eweing was getting treatment, he commented on it and i asked him how tall he was he said "how tall are you" i said about six eleven he said "about six one" then he asked how much i weighed and i said "how much you wiegh" he said "about three twenty" I said about two eighty. I think we were both very close to guessing each other's weights.

once alonzo mourning was on the bench with about two plates each side (225) and his trainer had just left, knowing protocol of always having a spotter especially with so much weight i kind of snuck over to the bench to spot him with ideas of saving him from being crushed by the bar, then he popped it up and did ten reps like it was nothing just a warmup.

well i was just riffing off 'coolest guys ever met' idea not trying to comment on their star power.

Cameron Diaz and some guy I have never heard of are NOT cooler than Roger Staubach (Heisman Trophy winner, NLF MVP Hall of Famer, and billion dollar company founder).

Also NOT COOLER than bettis, knight, mourning, switzer, irvin, canseco, mutombo, ewing, modano, strawberry, corbin and everyone else on my list.

more famous ok, cooler NO!
