kills per root games clearly rewards players too much for playing a lot of games. for example, with the modest rate of 1 kill per 4 games...

after 4 games = 1/(sqrt 4) = 1/2
after 16 games = 1
after 64 games = 2
after 256 games = 4
...

even with the same kill rate, their KPRG goes up with more games.

and if i have 45 kills after 225 games (a modest kill rate of 1 kill every 5 games and KPRG of 3), I would need just 3 kills over the next 31 games (less than 1/10) to maintain my KPRG.

furthermore, at the time of this post, jona had 182 kills over 530 games, a rate ~1/3, whereas zoid has 70 kills over 164 games-- almost 1/2.

in conclusion, fuck KPRG.

yeah skrum never answered when I asked why kills per root game instead of just straight up kills per game.

He answered me and said it was a counter to the randomness in the starts.

so taking the square root of the number of games played magically eliminates randomness due to starts? also everyone has approximately the same luck/random starts so why should that matter?

i still dont like anything per root game. It favors playing a shit ton of games. so somebody who plays 900 games with a 150 kills gets a kprg of 5 where as somebody with 40 kills in 100 games only gets a 4. but obviously the latter is more deadly (a kill every 2.5 games vs 1/6)

If someone got 6 kills in the first game and never played again, no one could ever do better than that. But it is possible to get more than 6 kills per root game.

The example I use to justify root games is home run hitting. How would you compare Barry Bonds with Mantle and Maris and the big home run hitters of the past when there weren't as many games in a season?

uh, wouldn't home runs per game solve that skrum...?

and for that you just need a minimum number of games.

Pat,

Give us a rule that determines a minimum number of games that will yield a statistically significant finding. I suspect that the rule will have a square root in it.

why is KPRG a better stat than straight-up KPG? it doesn't really get rid of noise; it just rewards more games.

or if you want a metric tying kills to skill, do KPG x PPG?
