Our economy is worse off then it was a year ago. We are still loosing jobs. Unemployement and underemployement are still on the rise. the national debt and deficit have both increased. Both healthcare reform bills are absolutely crap. So tell me why was is that you all wanted to elect a bunch of democrats to run our country?
I'm not saying that the GoP was doing a stellar job. I mean hell most of them don't even stand for anything anymore. But at least with them our economy was strong |

Rich vs everyone else really. |

at 4:12 PM, Wednesday January 20, 2010 EST OK Hoe, ive had a little sleep now but dont expect much from me cause ive not really read up on anything new to report (see tax increase thread). What i will say though is that a large number of economists have been saying for many years that, if left to its own devices, a free market well right itself. The economic trend in the U.S. since it was recognized as a sovereign nation as been one of ups and downs.
there is one trend I would like to make note of. Every time there hase been a new and more efficient mode of transportation/ communication, there as been a period of economic success that follows. And then a depression or large recession. I realize that there are many other factors, but it makes since for economy to do well when goods and information can be transported quicker. When people let the good times roll the they get careless with their finances. This is probably a large contributor towards most of our recessions/ depressions in the last 150 years. To tie this in to the political aspect of this thread. If fiscal irresponsibility is a large part of the problem, then it stands to reason that responsibility would be part of the solution. Now lets look at a sampling of the programs/ actions our government has taken. 1. Cash for Clunkers: This idea had potential. Unfortunately a lot of the cars that qualified for this deal are foreign made and thus don't do as much as they could to help our economy. Also it encouraged people to go out and make a very large purchase. I know of 8 people that took advantage of this program. 3 of them are in danger of defaulting on their mortgage and/or car payments. I know it is their fault they where dumb. Believe me I've told them that. But the government also encouraged them to make a purchase they couldn't handle. This although doesn't promote irresponsibility, it also does not promote responsibility. It also gives a tempting opurtunity for people to get in over their heads. The other action i would like to address has been beaten to death at this point so i won't go into it. Giving money to failing companies. Namely Government Motors, but also others. I think that if anything rewarding these failing companies will keep us in recession longer. When they collapse new companies will for to take on the void in the market. This is a proven fact. To quote myself "Evolution doesn't just work for biology." Succesfull companies adapt to a changing market and demand. Why try to prop up those who can't / won't adapt? Anyway, that's what i have to say for now. |
