Say I win a 97% roll.
How lucky was I? How lucky was my opponent? |

at 2:27 PM, Saturday January 9, 2010 EST Nice, glad you figured out the stats page formula. It's been a while since anyone posted it so it was a bit of a mystery.
I agree, the luck of individual rolls should definitely be squared because as it stands now, I can lose twice as many rolls as my opponent and still have a % around fifty, which certainly nullifies any strategic or tactical advantage I had. Also to monty: the reason the global average luck is below 50% is a little complicated: One would think, given every defense and every offense average to 50%, that the global average for all accounts is actually 50% exactly. However because neutral territories can only be attacked (attacks are generally less likely than defends) their defenses are not counted in the global luck average. |

Not sure why neutrals would make a difference. If you win an 8v8 neutral you get +53%, if you loose you get -47%. Where is the imbalance? |

at 9:57 AM, Monday January 11, 2010 EST i respectfully disagree.
altho i never thought about the neutral defenses, which prolly add (subtract) a little from the overall luck. the major contributor to the site average of ~49% luck is the fact that luck is normalized per game, and not per roll. so when people have a terrible unlucky first round, they flag faster, and have a good portion of 30-45% luck games. however, the people that got terribly lucky against them in said games NEVER flag out fast with the corresponding 55-70% luck. but dont think about it so much from you vs your opponent luck. just think about it from your perspective. whenever you are in a really long game, you get about 48-52% luck. whenever you are in a really short game, you get 35-45%. since the averaging is per-game and not per-roll, the luck average over several games that include one poorass start will be like 47% instead of 50% if the averaging had been computed per roll. meh, im making a long story out of a short one. damn walls of text habits. |

at 7:54 AM, Tuesday January 12, 2010 EST I think we might both be right Monte. And if that's the case then that total luck % number is actually really worthless because it doesn't tell you much (not that I ever thought it did).
And Storm, you're right... if you won 8v8 against a neutral then you would be luckier. But on average people only win 47% of their 8v8 rolls on neutrals, and actually lose 53% of them. So there's your imbalance right there, you lose more often than you win. So the average of your rolls against gray will be below 50%. Remember that Attack+Defense average at 50%, only your attacks are counted against grays, and therefore they average below 50%, since attacks are less likely. |

at 9:26 AM, Tuesday January 12, 2010 EST 100 8v8 rolls against a neutral:
47 wins = 47 * 0.53 = 24.91 53 losses = 53 * -0.47 = -24.91 Balanced. |
