at 10:25 AM, Thursday January 28, 2010 EST true i actually enjoyed his state of the union address (despite the fact that I watched the re-run in a bad mood after coming home from Northeastern's loss to Drexel--we were on an 11-game winning streak but we're ok we just don't match up well with them-they are our only 2 losses in conference)
but yeah, back to his speech..I like the fact that he kinda went beyond the scope of partisan ideology. He discussed tax cuts for small businesses and investing in off-shore drilling and nuclear energy. Yet at the same time, he promised to allow gays to serve and to REMOVE U.S. troops in Iraq. Anyways, if you watched the speech, you know what he said. I don't need to summarize it here. What I like about Obama is that he seems to not care about categorizing himself within a specific ideological category, but wants to create results through his own ideas from across the spectrum. However, it could all just be rhetoric (it seems like a lot of what he said during his campaign was). You could look at it like the actions of a man who's administration is desperately coming up with new ideas by touching upon every political erogenous zone he (and his advisors) can think of. |
