at 12:46 PM, Thursday November 5, 2009 EST its basically an endless debate between yanks and braves fans as to which of the two DM's deserves to be in the hall less than the other. what sappy fans (including myself, but apparently not fiero.)

Plus, I have some of Mattingly's cards. I'm not sure about Murphy; I'll have to dig them out sometime and check. |

at 1:29 PM, Thursday November 5, 2009 EST Nice! That's when most of mine are from. I thought I had Mark McGwire's rookie card and was going to sell it after he broke the record but checked and it was from his second season. Meh.

at 1:39 PM, Thursday November 5, 2009 EST you shoulda sold those mark mcgwire cards about 8 years ago. you know, the 1987 topps ones of him as an olympian team member.
man my brother and i used to collect tons of baseball cards (we estimate the collection at 20k i think). all 80s and 90s basically, but just the cheap ones, topps, fleer, donruss, score. we were never into the upper deck stuff. anyways, one day a baseball card convention comes through the local mall in atlanta, and my mom is like, okay, just this once, ill buy you any card you like, as long as its reasonable. i had never been in a situation like this where i could get one single valuable card, as i was never a true collector, but just a buy-a-pack-and-open-it-and-hope-to-see-lots-famous-players type. so the choice came down to frank thomas and ken griffey jr upper deck rookie cards. i liked griffey a lot more (maybe cus his dad played for the braves a few seasons, i dunno). then 3 years later i was like goddammit, because thomas tookoff and won those mvps, and hit like a madman, whereas griffey just stayed his usual self (which was still an amazing player of course). id check the prices every now and then, and the griffey card was stagnant in value, whereas the thomas card got up to like $90, which as a kid, i hated. but then, a dozen years later, the steroid shit broke loose, and griffey was one of only a couple players (gwynn, ripken) who was untainted. so yay. now THAT is a montecarlo post, thrax. long and pointless and only entertaining to 2% of the readers. |
