sexual harrassment on kdice.

it may seem amazing or whatever, but i'm female and enjoy playing kdice. however along with other female players, i receive a lot of unwanted attention and abuse from having a picture of myself, not slutty, not erotic, just a picture of my face, as my icon.

i'm not overreacting here, trust me. i don't mind being told i look attractive. it's a compliment, right? too many in a day and it gets repetitive but, even so, it's no reason to complain.

what i'm talking about here is moments like this, from maybe ten minutes ago.

weedeater: i blow a loud all over the chich in the pick teal
eramus: a loud?
weedeater: load
eramus: hrmm
weedeater: lol
weedeater: got excited
weedeater: lol
Sophalis: oh dear god.
Sophalis: seriously. get a girlfriend or something
weedeater: why
weedeater: i can rub one out
weedeater: looking at you

yea.. i'm really fed up of guys thinking they can say things like that to me and other girls on here and get away with it. i'm not amazingly feminist but behaviour like that is disgusting and inappropriate. this is a dice game, not an internet chat room, and women should be able to play on here without sexual harrassment like the example i just quoted.

i'd like to hear some opinions... thanks.

"To think that a female can not do exactly what a male can do is more than sexist, it is just plain ignorant, and asinine. People have to realize this is an age where everyone is equal, and can do anything to the same degree as any other person. We are all humans, all people; we can all do anything we put our minds to, women included. "

Ok, I change my mind. I'll add another point after all. That quote just reeks of what we tell middle schoolers these days to not hurt their feelings. Everyone CANNOT do everything. People are NOT equal. Some are smarter, taller, more attractive, on and on and on.

People all have different skills and abilities, and while I agree that people can all succeed at something, we cannot all exceed equally at everything, no matter how hard we work.

That is very true, but that is on a person to person difference. To say that in general males are smarter is idiotic. Yes one person can be smarter than the other, but there are very brilliant females as well.

Sorry for the double, just saw Vermonts 1st post.

You are right that there are guys that truly treat women well. I like to think that I am one of them in fact, but as a whole from what I have seen men do not treat women as they should. Do understand though I go to highschool where guys brag about having sex with a girl, break their hearts, ect. I have not been exposed to as much of the world where guys have grown up. Then again a lot never do.

A lot of guys have to realize beating people up, and such does not make you a man. Being a man is when you can take care of what needs to been taken care of, and being able to take care of the people that you must.

Sigh, I know there are a lot of great guys it is just from what I have seen it sickens me.

"To say that in general males are smarter is idiotic."

I don't disagree with that as far as average intelligence goes, but can I say that men, in general, are taller, or stronger? Can you acknowledge that there may be differences between them in other categories?

Can we not analyze the differences and discuss them, because it's interesting to do so, and may provide insight into the relations between different groups?

I think some people are hesitant to engage in discussions like this because they don't want the chance of hurting anyone, but as soon as we stop analyzing and discussing facts we're in trouble as a society.

And to prove my point further, even though your base argument about intelligence appears rock solid, men and women are actually, generally speaking, very different intellectually as well. As with most things in life, it's far too easy to just say 'one side is completely right' or 'this group is all wrong' or 'those things are exactly the same.'

I hate to quote wikipedia on anything, but it's pretty succinct in this case:
"Studies illustrate consistently greater variance in the performance of men compared to that of women (i.e., men are more represented at the extremes of performance), and that men and women have statistically significant differences in average scores on tests of particular abilities, which even out when the overall IQ scores are weighted."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IQ

Those are fascinating studies if you read through them. The differences are really interesting, especially given the fact that the sexes average out to the same in the end. Worth a read if you have any interest in the subject.

The bottom line is that people should be assessed based on their own merits, not those of any group, organization, sex, race, club, category, etc., that they belong to. However, that does not mean that any of those particular categories are automatically equal with another, for a particular area. (I sure sunburn a lot easier than members of many other races!)

The problems always come in when someone gets an incorrect stereotype of a group and begins applying it to people before they know if it accurately applies to that individual.

I know I'm rambling and I've tried to make about ten different points. Hopefully I was at least marginally coherent and you understood the point I was trying to make.

(And yes, if you're wondering, life is much better after high school. Even if there aren't less jerks, you sure can avoid them more easily!)

it's interesting that this thread has been resurrected seven months after i originally made it, and since the moderation system has been brought in. i haven't noticed any real problems lately, so i assume the mods are doing their jobs and harrassers are being dealt with.

has anyone had any problems lately or witnessed any incidents related to this whole debate? otherwise i'd say that this thread is no longer relevant and personally im happy to see it drop.

I think the current discussion is actually interesting, although I can understand if you don't want the portion at the top to be on the main page anymore.
