Scoring update information

The sandbox has tested a new way to adjust ratings with the goal of making kdice a better game. The results have been mostly positive. The changes mean that strategies that worked in the other version may not work with the new version. You may have played hundreds of games a certain way and it may be difficult to adjust. But our goal is to make an all round better game experience. So keep an open mind and try pick up the strategy. So far it seems to be closer in game play to the original to Dice Wars.

Rating Adjustment 1: This is the same as the old adjustment. You get more points for placing higher relative to your opponents rating. It isn't valued as much however since there is a second adjustment.

Rating Adjustment 2: This adjustment ranks you against other players based on your average territory count at the beginning of each turn. When you are knocked out your rank is calculated and an adjustement is made.

"The results have been mostly positive."
a poll would have been nice, to see exactly how positive these results were

I am opposed to the new system. It rewards bad playing.

By stealing as much territory as possible in the opening, and then taking 4th or 5th place, players consistently outrank me, when I play slowly but strongly and take second.

@Sandy:
1.
There was a forum thread Sandy! I don't know whether you took your chance to comment.

2.
This is not a democracy. Ryan is in charge and it is in _his_ interest that many people like kdice.

@ Energy:

Read Ryans post carefully: "strategies that worked in the other version may not work with the new version"

So you will have to adjust your strategy. :)

I haven't had much chance to test the new scoring but it looks stable. It looks a lot harder for people comming in 2nd + 3rd to get a decent rank up, with whoevers in 1st getting a huge bonus.

I just lost points for coming in 3rd. I have a feeling no one will ever flag now.

Maybe there should be some sort of a counter to show you everyone's average number of territories. Otherwise, it's impossible to tell where you are unless you have been paying complete attention the whole game.

@ vobios:

You will flag if you fear be next getting out...
Ryan tested the counter and disliked everyone only playing for average territories, though the strategy should be to dominate. You already pointed out, how to solve this problem :)

@Algios
You seem to know a lot about this issue maybe you should write a page on the wiki. Reading bits of information here and there on disappearing threads is a very inefficient way to learn about the topic.

@ algios:

Ok. You can flag all you want, but no one has any incentive to leave you alone if you flag. Others will still attack you and you will still attack others because everyone needs more territories.
