Here are Fatman_x's final stats:

Olkainry38 did not play any additional games after Dec 21.
Here were the two leaders on Dec 21:
1591 22% 16% 13% 13% 10% 11% 11% 21975 Fatman_x
0894 22% 20% 16% 13% 11% 08% 07% 21798 olkainry38
The November scores are below. They were recomputed when I found I had been using the 2009 datum instead of the 2010 datum.
The Test Against Zero Datum (TAZD) is a weighted sum of the squares of the differences between a player's percentage profile and the profile of a typical player with a zero score, adjusted according to the square root of the number of games played. If you would like to enter the cumulative TAZD competition for 2010, reply to this thread in the account that you want to enter.
In 2010, the cumulative TAZD began in April, because some January, February, and March profiles had corrupted percentages.
A minimum of sixty regular games per month was required.
Entries show number of games, percentages, and player name.
A minimum of 540 regular games played was required to remain in the standings as of December 31.
Here are the end of November standings with the new datum.

at 10:53 PM, Tuesday January 4, 2011 EST Okay, I've been running numbers trying to do the calculation so that I duplicate your results, and I finally figured out why I can't. The percentage profiles don't match. Why don't you weight the annual percentage profiles by the number of games played each month? It's fairly simple with a little clicking and dragging in excel and provides (I think) a far more accurate percentage profile than a straight average. A straight average favours someone who plays very few games one month (for example, kendawg) whereas a weighted average takes that factor into account.

at 11:29 PM, Tuesday January 4, 2011 EST They are weighted by games per month. I take each month's number of games, multiply that number of games by the player's profile and have the number of firsts, seconds, thirds, etc. for the month. Take the sum over the twelve months (though in 2010, it was nine) and get a grand annual total of firsts, seconds, etc. Then do the TAZD on the annual totals.
You probably noticed that the annual TAZD is not a mere sum of monthly TAZD's. A monthly winning TAZD might be 12,000, the yearly 21,000. Also, if a player is changing his style of play from month to month, his TAZD might actually decrease. This has been the case for noamlang1, who not only was losing ground to the leaders but occasionally had an actual decrease in his TAZD from month to month. |

at 12:12 AM, Wednesday January 5, 2011 EST noam's tazd decreased because his skill increased- doesn't that say something towards the tazd to you?

at 8:10 AM, Wednesday January 5, 2011 EST That there are different kinds of skill, not all of which are picked up equally by the TAZD. Noam's original style of play was good enough to win trophies, but he changed to another.

at 1:52 PM, Wednesday January 5, 2011 EST It shouldn't matter what "style" of skill gets a player more wins, or average higher places. What matters is that they got them, period.
Getting lots of 7ths (and therefore a high tazd) does not represent skill. We've said this many times before, but evidently it needs repeating: tazd does not measure skill in any way whatsoever. It measures deviation from a norm. Negative deviation (playing worse than the norm) affects your score in exactly the same way as positive deviation, so, again, it in no way measures skill. I'm not sure why this needs to be continually said. Maybe we should just keep copy/pasting the same text over and over again. |

at 7:33 PM, Wednesday January 5, 2011 EST If it matters that the higher players got more points, better percentages, etc., then it matters that not-so-good players got less points, worse percentages, etc. A TAZD close to zero has a real meaning: it means that you are not a good player.

at 11:06 AM, Thursday January 6, 2011 EST and if you play worse than a "not good" player, then you have a better tazd.
this is the point that verm/chloe/etc agree upon, and it seems to be valid. |
