This page attempts to address some of the questions that are most commonly posted to the forum or asked at the tables. If you are looking for basic strategy advice, please consult the How To Play page.

If you have a question that is not answered here, feel free to post it to the Forum. If enough people ask the same question we'll get it added here as well.

My question is...

How do I create a new account?
How do I sign in with my new account?
How do I reset my password?
Are the dice rolls random?
Is restacking random?
Is there a way to hide the dice in order to see the map better?
Why do some player's have maps with their names?
What does the blue & gold star by a player's name mean?
What do the gold stars by a player's name mean?
What do the colored circles by a player's name mean?
What is dom / domination?
How do I change my avatar (smiley face)?
How do I keep track of my favorite players?
How do I report abuse?
How do I turn off the sound
How do see additional game details?
What is flagging?

How do I create a new account?

You will need to select the 'Sign Up' link in the right navigation column.

You will then be required to enter the name for the account you'd like to use on kDice, your email address, and your password twice.

You will then need to check your email account for an account activation email. You may want to check your spam folder, in case it was sent there. Once you activate your account, you are ready to sign in and play!

How do I sign into my account?

You will first need to create an account.

You will then need to select the 'Sign In' link in the right navigation column.

You will then need to enter the email address and password you entered when creating your account, and you will be logged in.

How do I reset my password?

You will then need to select the 'Sign In' link in the left navigation column. Then select 'Forgot Password?'

You then enter your email address and a new password will be emailed to you.

Are the dice rolls random?

Yes, as random as any pseudo-random number generator can be.

Is restacking random?

Yes, as random as any pseudo-random number generator can be.

Is there a way to hide the dice in order to see the map better?

To make the dice disappear, press CTRL and +. Repeat the action to make it happen again. If you have not recently clicked on the map, you may instead zoom in on the map. Press CTRL and - to zoom back out, click on the map, and then try CTRL and + again.

Why do some player's have tables with their names?

The table names are currently based on the names of the previous month's top one hundred players.

What does the blue & gold star by a player's name mean?

The blue and gold star means that the player is a kdice member. The most common membership option is to pay $25 to be a kdice member for one year.

You can donate and gain stars by clicking the Membership link in the left hand column.

Members receive 2500 points at the start of every month.

What do the gold stars by a player's name mean?

Each gold star represents a ten dollar donation to the site.

You can donate and gain stars by clicking the Membership link in the left hand column.

You can also buy a once-a-month 2500 point bonus for ten dollars.

What do the colored cubes by a player's name mean?

The colored circles represent the trophies received for finishing in the top one hundred in previous months.

First, second, and third are represented by gold, silver, and bronze medals. The remainder of the top twenty-five receive gray medals, and the rest of the top one hundred receive white medals.

What is dom / domination?

Domination will affect the final score you receive at the end of a game. It is based on the percentage of territories you hold relative to the other players, throughout the course of the game. Only higher level games have dom scoring.

The dom meter displays the current dom standings for each player. The players to the right of the vertical gray line will receive negative dom scores.

How do I change my avatar (smiley face)?

All new players begin with smiley face avatar seen to the right.

To change this, click the Preferences link that appears under your name while you are at a table. Then select Change Avatar. You will then be able to browse for a small image and upload it to the server.

Once the upload has finished, refresh your browswer and your new avatar should appear.

How do I keep track of my favorite players?

You can easily track the players you most enjoy playing kdice with by clicking the Preferences link that appears under your name while you are at a table. This will not work from the forums.

Then select Friends. You can enter the name of any player that you would like to add to your favorites list.

If a player you have added is logged on, they will show up in a list in the right hand column, allowing you to easily find them.

How do I report abuse?

You can report unacceptable actions by either finding an Advisor at the tables (marked by an A next to their avatar) or posting a comment in the players reviews or the forum.

How do I turn off the sound?

You can turn the sound on or off by clicking the Preferences link that appears under your name while you are at a table.

The option will be checked if the sound is on.

How do I see additional game details?

You can turn additional details on or off by clicking the Preferences link that appears under your name while you are at a table.

Then select Details.

Having details on will allow you to see the following statistics for each player: the number of territories they have, the number of dice they have, an estimate of their score in the current game, and their place in the current game.

What is flagging?

If you are not currently winning a game, you will have the option to 'flag' to the players above you. You do so by clicking the flag in the lower right hand corner:

What this means is that you will automatically drop out of the game when there are only as many people left alive as the spot you flagged for. For example, if you flagged for third and only three players remain, you automatically drop out.

Flagging does not prevent you from attacking or from stronger players attacking you. It only signifies that you cannot finish higher than the position you flagged for. Often times, but not always, this will mean a stronger player may leave you alone to attack a non-flagged player
