Oh we've been "overdue" for a big one for years now. The city is right on top of a big fault line, it's only speculation that the Christchurch quake has increased the risk.

But yeah, not new worries by any means, just I guess we might be a little less complacent about them from now on... death toll at 98 tonight :/

Yeah it's not looking good down south. Was watching the extended news broadcasts today, and it seems like whole city blocks of buildings will have to be torn down, the majority of old heritage buildings have crumbled and they were apparently giving up hope of finding survivors in one of the major building collapses.

Everyone here seems to be feeling it hard.

Anyhow, lets just hope Wellington's expected big one doesn't show its face anytime soon :)
