Three Way Power Struggle

What is a three way power struggle? When there are 3 players remaining and they’re big enough that any two teaming up together could beat the third. Smallest of the 3? No problem, if you attacking only one person can decide the victor, that’s all the bargaining chips you need.

Your options:
1. Attack whoever you want.

2. Flag the biggest person and fight the other guy for 2nd. This option is usually not ideal because you instantly make yourself 2nd at best and 1st points are far higher than anything 2 or 3 offers.

3. Offer an open truce so either could accept. If either does you just made 1st and 2nd and you roll at the end. If you’re unsure of who you just truced make sure he accepts the roll at the end if you’re smaller, otherwise turn on his ass and truce the other guy.

4. Offer a three way roll. This is by far the fairest option for all three players and gets the game done quickly. All roll 8 dice, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd is decided by whoever had the highest roll.

How do I currently handle the situation? I like three way rolls but greedy people will want the 1 / 2 odds being 50-50 rather than the 1/3 chance of getting first. So currently if I ever see a three way power struggle I ask: “3 way roll or 1 / 2?” This way you either are the first to get truced and you have a 50% shot at 1st or all three agree to the 3 way roll. If the first person who accepts wants the truce rather than the 3 way, you better pair up with him and take the truce otherwise he might truce the other guy and make you 3rd.

I should mention there is also a 5th option which is never the best move unless you know they’ll accept. A closed truce offer. 1 / 2 blue? Or Truce blue? Why is this not your best option? Because a smart 3rd player not being offered that will instantly flag the person you’re offering it to making you 2nd tops and giving them their chance to fight for 2nd rather than being stuck with three.

What do I do if neither of them want to truce or roll? Pick one, attack him non-stop until you get truced. He’ll figure out soon enough that you attacking only him makes him 2nd at best and if he wants a shot at first he’ll have to play ball. You might have to do this if you’re the smallest of the three and they aren’t respecting your bargaining chips. Make them pay.

I hope this guide helps. I learned early in my kdice career the finer points of a three way power struggle by the randomly attacking method only to eventually have the other two players figure out, hey, if we just attack and kill this guy we have 1st and 2nd guaranteed.

At the 0 tables sometimes you can pull it off just by attacking and not saying a word but if the other two know what they’re doing they won’t let you get away with it.

Why do I get a strange code in the forum when I try to make an apostrophe? All apostrophes removed for the time being, using MS word and cut and pasting.

Too long, didn't read.

Ask: 3 way roll or 1 / 2?

Accept first offer. Profit

Thats more accurate than Id like to admit. In that case if you cant get a truce going you just attack the guy you dont like and give the other one first.

I haven't read your text, but rolls are stupid.

Only resort to rolls or truces when it's in your own best interest (aka increase your odds of winning). That will mainly be if you have less lands, if you are easier to cut or if you are in the middle or if you see a high risk of the others 2v1ing you.

That certainly doesn't mean you have to go for safety every time you are not in the best spot. Sometimes, if you play your cards right as the weakest player, you're still in the best spot to win.

Every 3 player situation is different and it's your job to increase your odds to win, especially now that 1st is rewarded so much in the new point system.
