For some time i have been playing Kdice, and grabbed som knowledge and experience i would like to share with beginners/more experienced players.
There is many great Guides out there for beginners, but this is the more simple things that could make your gameplay easier, and make you win more often. Connections: When you connect your territories together, you get +dices out from how many lands there is connected. The most people know that. But this might help you out when your'e going for a connection and is stuck with wich dice to cast. For an example: You have 5 lands connected in the south, and 1 island ( with a 5stack on it ) in the north and wanna get them connected to hetother. You have to beat 3 lands to get all connected, and one of the lands you have to beat, has a 5 stack on( next to your 5stack up north ), the rest is 1 stack's. Okay, here comes the golden ticket. Always do the hardest roll first, not the easy ones. Cause if you win all the smaller territories, but fail's at the hard ones your connection doesn't matter, and will probably get cut and die fast. That will spare you for going out with the dices in south. Ofcause if you can go around, do that, cause 5v5 is risky, but if it's stuck in a corner and you dont have a choice, and can't wait till it's stacked up, then follow my advice. Start Fails: Im sure you have tried to have the worst starts ever, (everyone has) and think you can't turn it into a game where you will get+ instead of- . You spread your dices out cause it seems impossible anyways, In anger or maybe a whole third thing and flags 7th. Your not always able to make a great game out of a bad start, but there is a solution, that works most of the time. So, IF you get that crappy start, simply conquer a territory with a 1/2stack on, so you have 2 lands connected. That way, you will get +2 dices that round, and if you get lucky, it stacks on the same land. Then build for 1 or 2 rounds, and when you have enough dices, you can conquer some more lands and then you have a game going. Bad Luck: We have all lost alot, and won alot. But sometimes it seems you can't win a single roll in several games. It makes you think that you just wanna quit and forget about Kdice ( Ive been there ). To prevent that from happening, you can do some of these things: Pick a map you really like, and only play that for some time. It will improve your skills on that map, cause you get to know the map, how to play it and how to be tactical on it. Or, take a day, or some days off, and get your mind of Kdice. Then come back after some days and play again, and your luck will return ( It's not magic or anything, but it seems to work ). More to come- Skyler. |

at 1:17 AM, Wednesday February 9, 2011 EST Playstyle: There is many types of styles that you can play. You can be agressive, defensive, play by chatpwning ( means that you smoothtalk your way to a win ) or all 3 things at once. The best thing for you to do, is to choose them differently from 1 game to another. Cause if you stick to one, people get to know how you will act in certain situations, and they will easily know what your next move will be. Therefor, choose different styles everytime, it makes it harder for your opponents to guess what your next move would be.
Islands: Islands can be the most annoying thing, when you wanna have your + dices at your main base. And mostly it will kill your game, if it doesn't killed ( You can always ask the player next to your island to kill it, but if the player refuses, too bad). But actually most of the times it pays off to let it stay and grow, instead of suiciding it several rounds in a row. ( If you let it grow and tries for a connect, make sure it's connectable, and not in the other side of the map from your main base.) Trucing: Trucing simply means that you and another player won't touch hetother, and you kill the rest of the map together. Sounds smart. But those words can be very dangerous and lead to a Counter ( means that all besides your trucepartner, will go against you). So, if you call a truce, be sure that you and your trucepartner can beat the others for sure. And only call it, if you and your partner is big enough to kill the rest, then it's almost always a possitive outcome. It happends that the counter will win, so that's why it's important to choose your partner carefully. Sometimes it's a p*ssy move, but it's a part of the game. Even more to come. Skyler. |

at 4:21 AM, Wednesday February 9, 2011 EST Tournys: Playing a tournament is nothing like normal maps. Normally you would spread out to look bigger and then scare your opponents to flag. In tournys you ofcause have to spread out, but not as much as you normally would. Tournament's maps is small, and get's smaller the fewer people you get. The best stradegy for you is to connect the few lands you have, build up and stop caring about greys ( Especially if you aren't first and nobody flagged to you ). Youll seem big if you have like 3-5 connected lands, there has good stacks on each of them. That will make the most people flag to you, as you get minus for 5th, 6th and 7th place. And who want's a bad score, right :)
Corners: I have seen many players who searched into the middle, and thought they would have a great chance there. Middle wont do you any good, so whenever you play, and however the map would look like, you shall always try to get the corners. If your'e stuck in the middle, try to get out in the sides, that way you have a better chance to survive and make a comback, and maybe win. Why? Not because corners is good ( well ofcause they are), but the middle is just a hot spot everyone want's to conquer, when they have settled in a corner. VFlags: Vflags ( Vflagging means that you flag for a position you aren't in atm "virtual flag" ) has been a big part of the game, and im sure it's here to stay for good. So to prevent yourself to flag for a lower position than you could be, simply try to conquer as much as possible. Because, if you seems like the leader and have the most lands, someone will call a vflag eventually, and then the rest will follow. Badabing badaboom your in 1st place, in no time ( even without doing anything really). |

at 12:25 PM, Saturday February 19, 2011 EST Pretty much most of the things you've mentioned are basic and either not well described or common knowledge.
For example, let me touch your "fail starts". You will get SIGNIFICANTLY less fail starts if you check the connect paths of other players and stay away from them or manipulate (by playing, not the chatbox) others into letting you connect. First round, people do 2 things 1) Try to connect their biggest/closest stacks 2) Try to occupy safe territories (usually corner) So if you see, let's say, brown's 5 stack next to you, but a bunch of his 3 stacks that are far away, you can basically ignore that 5 for some time. Others will avoid it, thus giving you time to expand and eventually take care of that stack. IF you see that brown is about to lose his south base in a couple of turns, stack. Stack hard. Else he'll hit you with that loaded 5 as soon as he gets a chance to rebase, and that's what you want to avoid. Sticking in a corner with one big stack is ONLY useful if you see that some other players are about to die. Else, you'll be out as soon as people start flagging (and assuming they're not retarded, you'll be eliminated for "sitting the entire game") |
