Bad starting positions are mainly considered to be when your territories are too spread out to be connected. You can try to kamikaze the isolated territory, but that backfires way too often and it sometimes takes a few rounds for someone to kill it off, it's very unpredictable and undesirable to say the least. Anyway, this idea obviously reduces luck and increases strategy, which is a good thing? ((I should've added that you likely should only be able to do this with territories that haven't attacked that turn)) |

But also: It´s also a part of strategie to let someones single Island, so that he fill up his other countries more slowly... a fine strategie.. |

at 6:19 PM, Monday January 15, 2007 EST However, the only reason they have the first option is because of bad starting position luck. It's painfully boring when your reinforcements go into an isolated territory that is going to be eliminated five or more rounds later no matter what you try and do. Usually when you let it fill up, it steals six dice over the crucial first six-ten rounds and then someone picks it off with their eight stack they were able to quickly build up (because all their territories are actually connected). Even if no one kills it, it's still say five times more useless than if the reinforcements had gone into your *connected* territories (yes, I'm exaggerating a lot of things in this reply).
Anyway, I heard an algorithm was added to try and reduce severe bad starting position luck, so it's reasonable to suggest an idea that removes more bad starting position luck. This idea does not take away the fun randomness of kdice, it replaces luck with new strategies. |
