at 5:17 AM, Thursday December 21, 2006 EST To make this game friendlier to players of all ages, words such as f**k, sh**, etc. should be censored to display "****" or simply swapped for less profane/offensive words in the chat window. For instance: f**k = frick, sh** = crap, b**ch = dog, etc.

at 5:24 AM, Thursday December 21, 2006 EST It doesnt work:
a) Players quickly learn ways to go around it, the game removes you writing fuck? well people will write f\/ck. or |=uck. sh1t, Or the most promient example: pr0n. b) It usually results in also "censoring" normal game text. As I told you if i write "chessexpert" and it becomes "che***pert" i dont find that funny. I dont have other examples now at the hand, but there are 1000ooo... where it cuts normals languages (I only know of german, where many city names contain "offensive" words middle in their name. eg. "Warschau" arsch = ass. Oh yes there we have it pass. mass. class. shall they all become p***, m***, and cl***? Therefore: RYAN SHOULD NOT DO THIS. If you want the game to child safe, disable chat! All you can do, is to select from an prepared list of things say... (thats the way most childsafe Multiplayer games go). |
