Less aggressive MTT payouts. and EDIT Final Tourny

Moondust and myself have collaborated, and both strongly support the adjustment of the payout style of tournys. I myself am only responsible for the Final Tourny Idea. But i agree with moon in that the tournys points should be a little more evenly distributed. We know its a repost. Just wanted to get it out there again.

FIRST ISSUE: Not enough players get points!

At the moment, in most tournament types (Members, daily 100 etc.) only 14% or 1/7 of the players get rewarded. This is bad, because it means that after each tournie there are certainly many more disappointed players than satisfied players. Of course, the tournies are also about fun and excitement... but in the end, I think everybody who takes the game a bit serious will agree that it is also nice to get something back for investing lots of time.
This becomes very clear when you look at the Big Freeroll: Altogether, this tournament lasted 3 hours and 10 minutes (!) On November 19th, X Decoy X finished as 10th (out of 89), but didn't get any points. This player probably spent more than 2 hours on kdice, he had two wins, one 2nd and two 3rd places... he eliminated many other players and still didn't get any points. I don't know how he felt after this, but I can imagine that he wasn't very happy about his 0 earnings. Same goes for all other players who reached the top 20. Most of them spent lots of time, showed some skill and had good provisional rankings but ended up with nothing.

In a tournament with 89 players, I think it is already difficult enough to be among the top 20... that's why I think that at least 20 to 25% of the players should be rewarded in a tournament. This could also help to make the tournament less stressful and could even help to avoid IGFs or PTAs, because even if you finish within the last fourth of the tournament you still might get something and you are not doomed to "ass-kiss" your way to the top.

Which brings me to the

SECOND ISSUE: Winners get rewarded too much!

I think this is an equally important problem, because in a tournament with let's say 49 players, you need some skill and a bit of luck to make it into the top 10... but to actually be in the position to win the tournament, you need even more luck and well (let's be explicit) in some cases... you need favours form other players.
Why should such a Lucky Bastard win 50% of the whole pot while others who showed as much skill but didn't have enough luck don't get anything????

Also, the fact that tournament winners receive loads and loads of points, has an unfair impact on the leaderboard. I won't name names... but currently there are players in the top 25 who usually have monthly PPGs close to or even smaller than zero.

My suggestion: Make the point rewarding curve less steep and reward more players.

Example: Members Afternoon:
1st = 5200 (=34%)
2nd = 3700 (=24%)
3rd = 2600 (=17%)
4th = 1700 (=11%)
5th = 1300 (=8%)
6th = 1000 (=6%)

I have heard many people complain about the final tourny rewarding first too much. People think it is unfair that The AntiTruce or anyone who wins the tourny,jets up 100 places on the last day. To steal it from people who have fought hard all month.
My idea is to just limit the final tourny to the Top 25 players of the month thus far. Also to distribute the points less aggressively. Maybe pay out 1-10 in the tourny. First in the tourny would probably still win first for the month. But there should be no complaining because it is still someone who worked hard for their place.

1 people think this is a good idea
