I'm posting this here, because the ideas page is broken for me, both in IE and firefox.
The problem at the moment is that because you get a benefit from being in second place, you see some players deliberately playing for second place. This actually breaks the games strategy, as ganging together against the common enemy is important. Any system that doesn't reward people just for sitting there doing nothing (sometimes even joining the table, and setting to away) would be better. My suggested system would be to score based on the proportion of the game each player has been in the lead (and has had more than 3 territories joined or something, to remove the randomness from the start). |

at 4:53 AM, Tuesday December 5, 2006 EST Yeah, the scoring system is flawed, it rewards those who sit in a corner while punishing the players who actually play the game. I just won a game where I controlled 1/2 of the map and the other two others just kept fighting each other for second place instead of fighting me. It means once you are ahead it's very hard to lose.

For the record, I win most my game because of the same thing you are talking about. Everybody quickly gives up trying to win, and start trying to lose last. |

at 4:10 PM, Tuesday December 5, 2006 EST another good way to handle this would be to put in an auto-forfeit if people sit out for too many rounds in a row. You might want to include a rule that prevents clicking end turn and not just the sit out button. I think 8-10 rounds would be plenty, and maybe issue a warning(?)
