Flag trollope

Before the introduction of the Flagging System this game could be pretty fun. There was room for more varied political machinations. Now a game usually unfolds by someone getting a strongish base and everyone flagging him/her. Even middle bases regularly win in this way. I remember a time, before flags, when I stirred up a table of 2 territory cripples to bring down a farming empire that held most of the board. It was really fun. That, along with numerous other possible scenarios, cannot happen now. The game has lost a great deal of its political texture.

As an example of how much the Flagging System has ruined gameplay here is a copy/paste from the chatbox in a game i witnessed today:

KimJung da ilest: i let u come thru
KimJung da ilest: red
pepecolo: kill kong
sneakas: because i killed you green
sneakas: and left you just because you wanted
KimJung da ilest: u didnt kill shit
bjgreg: purp and yell roll
KimJung da ilest: I had u on the ropes
JohnFTW: green you're losing dom by waiting
BAMMBI: why dont all u little ones revolt?
sneakas: blue ???
pepecolo: tu fais koi la toi
sneakas: purp did nothing
sneakas: why i should roll him ?
KAGEEE: blue
mildrid: mh purp wanted 4th
pepecolo: bute le vert
KimJung da ilest: just roll guys
KAGEEE: what is your final decision
bjgreg: that's correct
KimJung da ilest: please
mildrid: you all roll
mildrid: what about that?!
mildrid: all roll for third
KimJung da ilest: lol
pepecolo: kill green
KimJung da ilest: okay
pepecolo: wtf game
KimJung da ilest: fuck it
KAGEEE: ok
sneakas: i suggest geen and purp roll
KimJung da ilest: lets roll this bitch
KAGEEE: all roll for 3rd
KAGEEE: yellow
pepecolo: not fait
KAGEEE: roll or blue will kill u
KimJung da ilest: 34
mildrid: 34 green
pepecolo: blue and red
sneakas: ok i roll last then
mildrid: 25
KAGEEE: gg
mildrid: 31
sneakas: 31
KimJung da ilest: I win
pepecolo: yellow win
mildrid: sorry purp
pepecolo: mildrid i hate u

Talk about lame.

Bear in mind that in the above chat more than half the original players were still in the game. 3 people were knocked out and then the game was concluded by discussion of who deserved which position.

Ruined.

(sorry about double post)

I started playing after the flagging system introduction so I dont know if it was a good or a bad change. However i think that "rollof" thing is idiotic.

There is something wrong with a game that rewards the leader by making them click end turn for ten minutes.

Flags were meant to help the game end faster, not to make it take longer.

In that case We should be playing on 3-player maps.

Even on a three player map you'd have to people flag for second and the person in first has to just sit and wait. (Well, they don't have to, but general consensus has become that doing otherwise would be "dishonorable.")

A point reward for getting a kill would motivate everyone to focus on killing other players off, and get the game back to the fast-paced game we enjoy.

Can someone please buy this site and hire me to code some new things?

But not the forum...I love the form.

hmmm Vermont, hiring you does sound appealing (I have a long wish list too but we can always prioritise) but bying this site alone might be a bit too risky in the current financial climate

We would need a few people willing to invest like 5k each

I like your idea vermont. Cant you hack the site and secretly insert the code?

I like Verm's idea too, however I hate this forum. It is organized very poorly.

I had a discussion with Ryan long ago about why he wrote his own forum instead of using one of the many free, robust, secure, proven, feature-rich, forums out there.

The bottom line was that he wanted to be able to tie it into the kdice database directly in order to have forum accounts based on kdice user accounts.

I'll leave it as an exercise to the reader to decide if it would have been quicker to write some integration code or to craft your own substandard forum.

Ryan, if I'm wrong here, please set the record straight.

This forum isn't too bad actually, but there is no question about it that things could improve a lot by a few simple additions.I leave the order of importance open for discussion but imo these are:

1st: edit button/delete post button
2nd: forum moderators who can edit/move/delete posts (can be other people than the advisors, I mean you can't do all jobs at the same time)
3rd: link to next/previous 10 posts on the top of the page
4th: search function
5th: after mods can move threads, maybe divide "discussion" into subgroups like general (also for the non-kdice related fun threads)/game questions/problem reporting (pga, abuse, racism, bug reporting)
