ideas page broke, so i wanted to re-assert lager's recommendation for setting harder limits on low tables to encourage more people to play the high tables.
you can avoid a lot of the game to game favor trading by having a larger pool of players at the top tables people are naturally greedy and competitive and if you arent sitting with the exact same 20-30 people all month there is less incentive to have strong long-term relationships with everyone thats one reason the elo days were better, you only got rewarded for playing the top tables so all 200-300 people who qualified for the 2k tables always played the 2k tables a larger set of top table players makes the game more interesting and dynamic |

at 12:23 PM, Saturday April 3, 2010 EDT I agree! I'd put it somewhere like this: 0 tables are fine, 100 up to say 2k, 500 up to 10 k, 2k up to 50k.. I think it leaves enough room for he weaker player to stick in the 0-500 tables but also pushes more players to go for higher tables..

As much as I agree that favoritism is really really lame, this isn't the solution. What would actually happen with this would be mega farming by a the same group of people on players who didn't want to be sitting with them. Which is honestly what I think leek wants to happen anyways. |

at 3:02 PM, Saturday April 3, 2010 EDT evil empire, couple of months ago i used to tank my account when i reach 5k, avoiding to play 500. none the less, that made me play 500 tables more and as i got better i no longer do that.
the "getting better" happened when i played more with better players and they commented on my play style: "noticing when ppl are leaving u alone, attacking your enemy before he build, etc". the point is, 2k and 5k tables are not filling because some ppl think they are risking much of their virtual points when playing with better players, because they are dominating the 2k and 5k which leads to favoritism and "some times" pga. so if there is like 2 good players on the table "when the limit is lower" opposed to 5 good players right now, their effect will be limited. that will not end pga and favoritism, it'll just make the 2k more versatile because some players will keep playing them when they see they did good on the game and have been rewarded more points. |

at 10:13 PM, Saturday April 3, 2010 EDT I don't quite get this "i'm gonna lose points on a bigger table" logic..
I mean, yes, u risk more points on higher tables but ur risking those points only if ur goal is to have 5k at the end of the month.. Weird goal if u ask me.. If u want points worth keeping then u must play higher tables.. Without the higher tables u aren't gonna have any points that u should be afraid to risk.. |
