What should be done?

Looks like every time I think I'm finished with changes and things look stable the KDice people find another hole to exploit.
I agree that you shouldn't be able to buy first place (even though that little race paid for the server for last month). The reason it was possible was that it was a bug introduced when kdice moved to its own server and member bonuses were added. I knew about the bug but didn't think it would be used this way. As for bomb being played buy multiple people I can't think of any solution to this. I don't think there's any way to prevent this. Although the leagues idea is probably the best step. That idea is where different leagues of play are introduced that have different play parameters. For example, 16 dice, ELO scores, or a maximum number of games in a day. Its a cool idea but kdice needs probably 10x the population to make it useful. Anyway, just posting to get your thoughts on how last months top 3 should be handled. |

at 10:21 AM, Thursday May 1, 2008 EDT if you want to retroactively change the outcome of this month, then i suggest the following:
dg 1st but if thats the case, then you need to retroactively punish all the others who have abused loopholes in kdices history too. seems a tough balance to strike. but thanks for communicating with the community before taking action. this is good, feels like last year. |

at 10:21 AM, Thursday May 1, 2008 EDT I think every month, select people know what strategy to employ in order to win. Wish knew the strategy this month which proves he understood the game better than anyone else in April. Last 2 month were the same thing, the 1st place winners knew exactly what to do to manipulate a 1st.

at 10:25 AM, Thursday May 1, 2008 EDT Very sad that anyone has to exploit a loophole or manipulate anything to achieve 1st place. I guess if you can't win it by playing well, then go outside the boundaries and win at any cost.

at 10:27 AM, Thursday May 1, 2008 EDT A guy outside from the insider crew worked the lower tables and he worked them hard. He earned his points without playing at the higher tables and he made it so well that he was 1st. Some of the regular top25 players can´t take it, they can´t allow somebody outside of their ranks to win Aprils competition, so they use foul play and to make it sure two of them use foul play.
Suggestion: Remove the bought points from DG and wish and give them 2500points head start each of the next months for as long as they payed for. |

at 10:28 AM, Thursday May 1, 2008 EDT Well, the problem is that while you say now it was a bug, I was never aware that it was a bug, so dicey and wish could not have been aware either, and thus they paid money on the basis that it was a legal way to gain points.
This means that, regardless of the general concensus of what is fair, they cannot be denied after the fact without refunding their money, which raises other issues. I think that leaves you with the only solution of dual scoring for last month. Duplicate out last month's scores, and calculate it twice - once including paid points, once not including it, and award (at least for first place, or top 3) 2 sets of awards. I think (havent checked) this would result in Bomb getting a 1st and 3rd medal, dicey getting 2 second place medals, and wish getting a 1st place and teal medal. Then those who helped keep the kdice server running still get what they paid for, but those who worked for their medal get theirs. On another note, and while I would understand there being such a rule (and there may be one) I am not aware of a one player per account rule, and even if there is one, I don't think bomb is more than one person. If there is such a rule, and you can crunch the game time stats to figure out that it's impossible for bomb to be a single person, I think the 'innocent until proven guilty' should apply there. |

I think TiS had a good idea. Rework the positioning for April without those points bought at the end and chuck dicegirl and wishbone to the bottom of the pile. Then give those two points at the START of each month in the future till their dirty money has bought the points they paid for. |

at 10:54 AM, Thursday May 1, 2008 EDT Don't give 1st place to the person with most total points, give 1st to the person with the highest points per game ratio (only people who played more than 100....or at least 50 games elligable)
The progression to higher tables should encourage people to keep playing as many as possible still in order to minimise the effect of the first games they played at 0 tables only getting 50 or 100 PPG.... |
