table: jaywest: two big lakes in the middle, with half of the map separated from the other half by just a few key territories.
down to five players: green, strong in the NE with about +20 dice, 5 territories red, in the middle, with about 8 territories yellow, in the SE with about 7 territories blue, in the SW with about 8 territories and +20 dice purple, in the NW with 3 territories alliances formed: red/green vs. blue/yellow/purple green with +20 dice only had one place to attack yellow. besides that was closed in by red. blue had similar issues, completely closed in by yellow and purple, but purple moves out of the way for him, yielding blue one red territory to attack. reds story: a couple times the strongest on the map, threatening to break into blue's homebase in the W/SW. knocked purple down to one territory a couple of times in the NW. attacked yellow a few times in the south trying to break into the SE. yellows story: fought red/green in the two territories he bordered them. back and forth, down to 5 territories once. fought to keep green from having two territories to attack from. purples story: after letting blue out, lost some key rolls to red, hid in a corner for long stretches of time, then caught fire and took about 4 territories from red. blues story: struggled to get out of his homebase, back and forth with red. greens story: struggled to get out of his homebase, back and forth with yellow. eventually blue/yellow/purple strung some rolls together and eliminated red. green had about 10 territories now, still with +10 dice or so. you would think he would go down soon. no. green wins several critical rolls and re-establishes old ground he used to share with red. at this point he decimates yellow in the south to the point that he starts chipping away at blue in the SW. purple continues eating away at green in the N. blue fights from being cut in the SE, and fights to help cut green in the N/middle. purple/blue successfully cut and defend finally in the middle/E. green gives one last shot at taking out yellow, but misses. green finishes 4th, +18 (hello, dominance). two turns later, the alliance flags. purple, who was down to one territory a couple times, owns the most land, and gets 1st for +15 (0 dominance). blue takes 2nd for +10 (+1 dominance). yellow takes 3rd for +4 (-2 dominance perhaps?). so overall: game lasts 68 competitive rounds. 1st got +15 2nd got +10 3rd got +4 4th got +18 (sorry i forget what red got in 5th) best battle ive been a part of. i like the new system, and am glad green got rewarded for his dominance. |
