Generally people will believe you if you say something. Said thing does not have to be true. Thus you can say you are flagged for second when you are actually planning to build and take first. (Don't worry, people won't check to see if you actually flagged).

with les, general rule of thumb. If he talks he is lying, if he types, he is lying. He even lies when he says he is lying, cause that means he is telling the truth, and he said he is lying.

Some people just lie. It can't really be stopped .... I guess you just have to deal with it yourself.
