The new rankings rewards players that get to and than maintain a high ELO rating. The old ranking, based exclusively on rating, gave no incentive to players that achieved a high rating to continue playing.

While confusing, at first, this is a step in the right direction.

Now we can work our way into the wonderful top 25, get a decent rating and keep it high as you play many games, ponts just accumulate, once you erned them their can't be lost.
